Immediate stalling upon starting... question.
When I start my car after its been sitting for a while and is completely cold (usually overnight) the startup is a little rough. It will start and then stall. If I feed it some gas for a second it it will smooth out and idle fine. I read the FAQs for hard starting, but I figured some of you guys might have had this problem and know exactly what it is. Is the fuel filter the culprit, or could it be something else? Any help is appreciated.
so it could be the IAC (or whatever its called by nissan.) that was a common mustang problem and i actually thought about that, but i disregarded it because when the IAC goes on Mustangs it doesnt idle warm or cold. i guess it might be the really early stages. i'll give the tb cleaner a shot.

Hey, had the same problem on my '98, and it did in fact turn out to be the IACV (Idle air control valve). It ended up cositng me 195 for a refurbished one from Nissan, and w/ 95 dollars per hour labor charge, total came out to 340 - so in fact that is the problem, was a little upset when i heard about the cost but the car starts perfectly now so its worth it.
Hope this helps man, later...

i have that problem, but since my car has a full 3.5 and its new, i know it isnt the throttle body, but tilley is still working on the problem...... and Derek, i have a friend that i go to school with who talks about towson and b!tches when ppl mispronounce it, lol i just thought it was funny cause thats the only thing i know about towson lol
well...there was a thread describing Derek's symptoms to a "T" almost a week ago on here and I had the exact same symptoms myself back in the day, we resolved in the thread after everyone's input, that it was one of 3 things....take off, take apart, and clean IACV.......clean TB.......and replace ECTS (engine coolant temp sensor--a cheap part that is also very easy to replace)...for me, my car would die as soon as I turned it on...except if I blipped that gas as soon as I started my car, then my car would stay on and just idle about 1-200rpms higher than it used to (1700rpm's cold instead of 1500rpms cold)...all of this only happened on really cold starts mind you...my solution turned out to be the ECTS...cheap and easy...you can check it with a multimeter for the correct resistance b4 replacing it to make sure...(see haynes/chiltons/FSM)...
wow, thats alot of dough for an iac. I'll probably try and clean it first, along with the tb. if that doesnt work I'll move on to the ect.
emmas, I went to school in baltimore with alot of ny/nj people and they always butchered the pronunciation of towson (Tou' sun is what us Baltimorons say). Everyone from up north calls it Tou'Zen. Its pretty funny.
Thanks so much guys, for all the suggestions.
