Front wheel bearing, anyone?

I have a bad front wheel bearing. I know this because of the hum at low speeds. I got new tires and it didn't help so I had my trusted mechanic take a look at he told me what I thought it was, the front wheel bearing.

He quoted me a price of just under $400 for parts and labor. Apparently they are supposed to be more expensive than the rear wheel bearing.

Anyways, has anyone done this repair themselves? Any advice on whether its worth doing or let the pros handle it?

Thanks.

You can do it..

You really need a press.. which any local shop will charge ~$30 to press out the old bearing and in the new...

I just had my front passenger side bearings replaced. The humming noise that bad bearings generate was ridiculously loud, it's quite a relief to have that go away. $400 is kinda steep, there should be a few shops that will do it for under $300.

here's a shot of what the busted bearings will look like when you take em out:

For those who have or will replace your bearings, are you on lowering springs?

Hope the $400 is for BOTH bearings, and not just one, cuz that'd be kinda steep. I had my drivers side bearing replaced at a local shop for $190 parts/labor....
