Sylvania Silverstars

I know these are the best headlight replacement bulb on the market. My question is will they really improve over stock? Are they worth the $40?

i've had a bunch of aftermarket bulbs in my car including the silverstars. the silverstars' output is better than stock but the bulbs burn out real fast. plus, i don't htink it's worth the $40. might as well do the 9007 conversion and get decent bulbs. that'll be a lot better.

dont get the silverstars, although they are bright they will not last long, or they will explode inside the headlight and damage the reflector like mine did.... bastards

hahha yeah silverstars are good while they last but they dont last long. My fog light bulbs blew out within 5 months. Its retarded. I am just gonna buy the cheap one's now...if you really want to spend the money buy the $80 PIAA atleast they are garanteed for 1 year. so its the same as buying 2 pairs of $40 silverstars.

Silverstars last for only 150 hours. Most bulbs last for about 700-900 hours. Dont waste your money.

My max is the second car I've used silverstars with and I have had no issues, I like em'. However I do agree with dko683 about the 9007 conversion. Better deal.

so 9007 conversion + silverstar = pretty good/matching setup? i was wondering how well it'll match with the corner lights because stock headlights and if you do the bulb mod. to make the corner light brighter matches up pretty good.

My .02 - silverstars are the best LOOKING bulbs besides HID - but they are horrible as far as illuminating the road and often times in the rain I had to check to make sure my lights were switched on because I couldnt tell...so take it for what it's worth.

That number is in the sylvania's website itself ... I haven't seen anywhere on the internet where the rated life of PIAA bulbs is mentioned. I have had silverstars for the past 6 months and they are still good. Bought a pair shipped for $22

Not just with silverstars, but even with my stock bulbs I had to check if they are ON or not sometimes when it's raining. Atleast, the silverstars illuminate the sign boards better than other Xtravision or stock bulbs, even in rain.

Enjoy.

good bulb lighting wise, i actually liked the light pattern better than the piaa's i have now. only fault i found in the silverstars is that they dont last very long. i think mine burnt out within about 9 months or so. not worth $20 a peice imho.

I've had my Silverstars for about a year now. They haven't blown yet, but they have really gotten dim! I can't wait to replace them (prob. tommorrow, actually). They were great when I first got them, except they did suck in the rain/fog/snow. Now they are terrible regardless. I definitely won't get them again!!! Too bad I bought them for my wife's car 2 days after mine, because I really did like them at first.

The light on the ground is a lot whiter than stock...but they do suck in the rain. Mine lasted about a year with a LOT of night driving.

WOW the beam pattern of aftermarket cefiros is the worst have ever seen! H4 are usually a better bulb (over all halogens) but the aftermarket cefiros you are using just ruin an H4. real H4 have a sweet cut off ----> __/__/ something like that. ouch

Silverstars look good and thats it. They have no other benifits.....not brightness, life span, visibility....nothing nada zip zilch.

If you do a lot of night driving, I would not recommend them. They have one of the shortest rated lives (~ 150 hrs low beam) of any 9004 bulb.

If you go to Sylvania's website, you will find the following rated lives:
9004 Silverstar - 150 hrs low beam - 50 hrs high beam
9004 Xtravisions - 220 hrs low - 145 hrs high
9004 Standard - 320 hrs low - 150 hrs high

Here is the link
http://www.sylvaniaautocatalog.com/...6&FigNumber=136

I bought a set when they first came out and they lasted about 6 months. Light output and colour were pretty good but bulb life is terrible.

Couldn't have said that any better myself.
They look good, but perform horrably.
I actually took them out shortly (1 week) after realizing that every other car's headlights outshined the silverstars light output on the road.

I have Silverstars currently, they were a big improvement over whatever bulb the previous owner had in my car. I have at least an hour of night driving daily though, so I'm probably not going to replace them with another set in 6 months...

Actually, I DO have them on my sho. With a 100 watt wiring harness, they are REAL nice.
All this negative feedback on the Silverstars puzzles me...
the Silverstars are highly recommended by many of the members at the Shoforum, where I tend to hang out quite often. Noone has complained about the short lifespan. I wonder if there is something different with the wiring in the headlights, or something to that effect.
Personally, when I first installed them, I was a little disappointed. I expected MORE for my $40. Later I installed the wiring harness
