My friend is looking to buy a 97-99 Maxima. He wants to spend less than $10,000 and would really want a Black on Black SE w/Auto Trans, and less than 50,000 miles. I told him its going to be really hard trying to find a car like that. Black on black are rare right.

Ive been looking around in the local Auto Trader and most of the Maximas around here have really high miles 80K plus. My friend doesent really want a high mileage car but that is what he might have to buy.

What are some common problems Maximas have that could cost my friend alot of money to fix? How long does the trans last? Should he hold off and just buy a low milage Maxima if he could find one.

There really aren't any high dollar issues to worry about, as long as the car has been maintained.

My car has over 200k miles and the most costly single repair I've had is replacing the starter at 90k miles.

Just be sure and run a CarFax and have the car inspected by a good mechanic like any other used car.

yes, that car will be hard to find, but not impos. the thing that is killing him the most is the low miles. blk/blk is hard enough...

common problems? my tranny blew out at 72,000mi, some sooner, some still on their orginal tranny at 210,000. also on another maxima i owned, it blew out at 102k miles. another common problem is the coil packs..

also, a know problem is tire shine... dangerous stuff. and if you have a problem with you car, just use seafoam.

try looking on cars.com and ebay for local deals you can scope out i went 150 miles to buy my car, also most black maxima have i think have either black or grey interior if you have to swap out the interior, very easy job
