painting calipers????

its however much of a pain you want it to be. personally i do mine every spring, just degrease them, wire brush them and just use a peice of cardboard to try and not spray everything else, and take about an hour or so. although if you take the time prep everything right and are very particular on the results and want it to last you can spend a whole weekend on them. id say how much of a pain it is will be determined by the job you want done.

you want to polish them and your wondering about how much of a pain in the *** the painting process is...just times the painting process by about 100000X and you will get how much a paint in the *** it would be to polish those things...just paint them they look nice when they are painted!

i just did mine its really easy takes a little bit of time depends on how dirty ur calipers are. youll need to sand them a little but its not a big deal. i used the paint with a brush so i didnt have to take anything apart. i heard the spray is more durable and lasts longer not sure if thats true tho. i jacked up one whole side and did 2 calipers. took about an hour to hour and a half. then did the other 2 the next day.i say do it. looks real good after.

Seems like everyone has this locked down...but why not one more post. I painted mine when I was changing my pads because everything was already apart. I just used an AlumniBlast engine spraypaint and it worked fine. Its been on there about a year now and still looks good. So spending $20 for a kit just doesn't seem right...

The G2 and foliatec kits are very good. Everyone in this thread that said they had problems with fading used spray or the duplicolor kit. Not saying the g2 and foliatec wont eventually fade, because everything will end up fading, but it takes a lot longer than others.

when i paint mine, all i do is clean everything off with brake cleaner.. mabye ill wire brush the caliper quick.. then i just spray everything.. EVERYTHING.. the complete rotor too.. i do mine black, cause i just want them to look clean, not draw attention like a highlighter.. but anyway, the benefit of doing it this way is for one, its much easier, and number too, everthing that the brake pad does not touch, stays the color you paint it.. Especially the rusty ring on the rotor where the pads dont touch.. all stay look nice and clean.. the pads wear the paint off the rotors really fast, even just goin around the block a few times.. if you ask me, all this taping up and covering is alot of overkill, and doing it my way looks better imo.

Here's a pic from Jan 2004:
and here's a pic from Jan 2005:
I have noticed any color fade, I haven't done any touch ups just wash mit though the spokes, I used Tremclad brush and it wasn't even high heat as I had it left over in the garage from painting my midpipe.

If you want to spend about $6 bucks to do this, go to wal-mart, autozone, wherever and pick out your paint (High Temp of course). Then go to wal-mart and get some foam applicator brushes. The wal-mart here has them in the craft section. The brushes are wedge shaped with a wooden handle, they're like 35 cents apiece. Now spray the brush with your paint and become Picasso. The paint goes on nice and you don't have any bristles to slide all over everything or fall off.
