LED's for door?

Anyone know what type of LED you would use for the door bulb? I'm wanting to swap it for blue to match the lighted kickplates and lighted gauges. Also, anyone have pics of different colors of LED's behind the gauge cluster?

The OEM bulb is a type 161. The best LED replacement for this door steplight application that I know of is from Ledtronics.com (P/N AUT194-0PB-014V). There are other LED substitutes for the type 194/168 bulbs but they don't throw as much light in the desired direction.

Pavelsmax, I just installed the same gauges and want the needles to be brighter... Did you plug the LED's into the existing holes or mod it? What color LED's? Also, what did you put the power for the gauges into? Have you seen the light up kickplates? They accentuate the gauges very nicely.

Well unfortunately i didn't take any pics of my setup cuz i didnt have my camera at home the weekend i did it but i can explain it

first i took out all the gauges and everything then removed the needles

then behind the gauges there are clear plastic pieces that spread the light around to your gauges i took them off and got out a drill

at the center of the clear plastic piece i drilled holes (as close to the center as possible)

for the small needles i put one 3mm led and for the large ones i put two in

i also sanded the leds with fine grit sandpaper

i wired the leds back to where the bulbs would be

if i ever need to take the cluster apart again i will take pics

oh also for pavelsmax, i'm still debating if i should get like the 6led bulbs for gauges or the reverse indigo like urs. i heard if you touch the needle the wrong way, it can screw things up. how difficult was it and how exactly do you install them?

They are blue, wide angle LED from superbrightLED.com.

I'm going to try a make my own red glow needles using some of pavelsmax methods.
