What are the symptoms of a faulting timing chain? One just starting to go bad, one thats been bad, and one that is terrible? Thanks for the help in advance

IDK but they are expensive to replace. They are suppose to last the life of the engine...but I doubt that.

they do last the life of the engine, cuz if they go bad, the engine will destroy itself

symptoms are timing is incorrect. if your timing chain is loose it may skip a teeth on the timing gear annd sproket. you will also hear it in idle rubbing against the timing cover. you wont hear it in gear as when you spin the engine, the centrifugal force keeps ur chain attached. if your chain is loose, your timing cover maybe done and might cause a hole where oil can leak.

not to mention the pain it is to change the timing chain. It's one of those if it aint broke dont fix it.

Timing chains don't really go bad. Sometimes they stretch a little bit, but there are tensioners to take care of this. On some of the '95 and early '96 models there is supposedly a tensioner wear issue. However, my car is a '96 built in July '95 and at 201k miles have no indications of any valvetrain problems (hoping it stays that way!).

Do you have reason to suspect a problem with your timing chain?

replacing the timing chain tensioner is the only service that may need to be done...a cheap part and relatively easy to change as well!

what happens is the plunger on the tensioner that keeps the chain tensioned gets dry over night as the oil settles down into the crankcase, so the when you startup your car in the morning....you will hear your timing chain rattling for a few seconds as the plunger gets soaked by oil again, so it can properly move into position and hence put tension on the timing chain...
