Position of HID bulb shields

I have read that you should put the shield on the bottom of the bulb, but I don't think that makes sense. Shoudln't it be on the top of the bulb to cut off light from going further upward.

the reason why the sheild is put under the bulb is because most of the glare from the bulb comes from the bottom of the housing, so the shield blocks the bottom half from glaring.

Finished my retro about 6 weeks ago, trust me it goes on the bottom. I tried it the other way and it won't work.

the reason it does on the bottom of the bulbs is because the ligth comeing fomr the bottom goes downs and hits the reflectve bottmom of the headlight and bounces upwards towards the sky....there for it goes on the bottom like the other 3 posts said..

So do you think If I painted the bottom reflector of the light housing Flat Black, it would absorb enough light so I wouldn't need to make a shield?

If not, what material are you using for your homemade shields, and what glue to keep them in place?
I don't have projectors, just Bulbs.

i've always thought about painting the bottom half but im not sure if it'll work or not, if it does, it would be perfect for HIDs. when i had my HIDs, i made a custom shield and added it and worked perfectly, NO GLARE...
