Timing Chain Replacement

How much would I expect to pay to have my timing chain replace? How hard is it to do it myself? I'm in a jam right now, and I need some info quick. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

The timing chain should last the life of the engine. It should never need to be replaced unless it is broken. I am not sure how to do it though.

I had starting problems and brought the car to the mechanic, and they told me that the timing chain tensioner went bad, and caused "other problems" and that I need to change my timing chain....

Your timing chain tensioner may be bad and while you are in there you could replace the chain but it is not absolutely necessary.

Mine kind of grinds on cold starts but goes away. I may eventually replace it. I don't see how that would make starting problems though unless timing was off.

probably expensive - it takes time to get to the timing chain - if it needs to be replaced - and if they are charging by the hour - it's not cheap..... just my .02
