Can anyone help me out? My sunroof is jammed. I was able to close it,but I think it was derailed. Is there a way I can fix it myself without taking it to the dealership? Thanks in advance!

Thanks wicked1044, I'll look into that tomorrow. Has this happened to anyone else? I was punching 105 on the interstate when it realized my roof was open. Could the force or the wind derailed it?

If it's derailed you most likely will need a new assembly. try parts.com for a new one (cheaper than dealer) or car-parts.com if you want to get one at the junk yard. There were a couple of posts that covered the subject over the past 3 or so weeks.

good luck

FYI; This happens a lot on acura/honda's since they use recycled plastic and over years the plastic will become warped and the sunroof will be stubborn and not want to close. Although the maxima uses metal pieces so this should not be the problem.

Mine would always close but sometimes I would have to hold the button for a couple seconds before it would actually start to close, I believe I had some type of electrical problem..... As for going 100+ mph, that shouldn't have anything to do with it; and as for it derailing, I've never heard of that happening... Never the less the dealer will want to install a whole new unit for about 600 bucks, so stay away from them, I also wouldn't try playing with it just because you might hurt it more than help...

I know there is some documentation on the assembly of the sunroof, someone will have it or know where to get it on here....

Did you try to get it to close when you were going that fast, or when you slowed down? I think BrianV mentioned that the sunroof won't close or open past a certain speed, I think it is above 80.

I tried to close it after I got off the interstate. It seems to be working ok if I open it half way, but if I try to open it all the way, it gets stuck. I'll play with it more tomorrow, and see what I can do.

My 96 SE also used to be like that, it would always close though, sometimes would just take awhile to kick in.... I noticed that the problem of it not wanting to close most often happened when I was using a lot of power, like closing all 4 windows and sunroof at same time, and when I did that the sunroof would be more likly to stop and take a short but very annoying break...
