I was curious what your guys' rpm at idle in drive are?? I know everyones car is not going to be exactly the same, but I just wanted a round a bout idea.
Mine are 550-600 rpm. It doesn't idle rough at all, it's pretty smooth, although I think at 700-800 it would be just as smooth (it will idle this high with the a/c on of course). Does any else's 4th gen run this low?
Also what engine do I have? the VE? VQ? (I'm not in my 3rd gen anymore so now I have to learn all about my new car )

TIA

VQ and the low idle thing is pretty common with the 4th gens. My idle used to drop down to about 550 everytime I came to a stop sign or light etc... until I adjusted the idle. No more problems now. It's on the MaxFaq's page or you can do a search on how to adjust it.

Yeah, mine is 650-700. Why would that be bad?

Do we need to get Mr. Martin involved here?
Thanks

The correct idle speed is...
- 700 +/- 50 (automatic transmission, in Neutral)
- 625 +/- 50 (5-speed)

All 4Gen Maximas are powered by the all-aluminum VQ30DE engine.

mine used to be 800-900 the first year I brought it new. After the second winter here in canada idle dropped to 550-650 and now its summer and it still idles at around 650 with A/C on. I think I need to adjust it soon

Mine use to idle at 750rpm. After i installed my CAI, my rpms went down to 600rpm. The car still idles great and smooth. The best rpm is where you can get it as low as possible and have the car still idle smooth as can be. So it looks like im doin well with that.

When I start my bad boy in the morning, the RPM scoots
up to about 1200-1300 and as the engine warms up, drops
to about 550. When the engine is completely warmed up
and after about 20 miles on the highway, the engine comes
to about 500 RPM while in drive waiting for the light to
change. I also noticed that in this type of idle state
with the engine hot, putting the A/C on would nudge the
RPM up to about 600. I feel no rough idle at 500 RPM...

Hope this helps...

well it looks like the low idle is a normal occurrence. In neutral my idle is 700 but while in drive is about 550- 600 but its still smooth, so there are no worries here
