95 Maxima GLE Start Engine in Cold Weather
95 Maxima GLE Start Engine in Cold Weather
Hello,
When I start my engine in cold weather, I have to step on the gas pedal in order for the rpms to not drop down and have to restart. Is this normal? I don't think so, but I'm not good with cars. Anyone have any idea what is wrong if it is not normal?
Horace

happened to me... first of all, doing this will cause your starter to go so be ready to buy a new starter afterwards possibly. it was my engine coolant temperature sensor in combination with bad fuel injectors... in your case it is prolly just the engine coolant temperature sensor though.
It's also possible it's just a dying battery. How old is it?
If it only happens in cold weather this is a likely culprit -- I had to get a new one (I think mind still had the original battery from dealership) at the beginning of this winter when it was like -2 for a few days straight, battery **** the bed and wouldnt even start one day.
But it never showed any signs of wear until it was cold outside.

this happened to my 4th gen, and i had a brand new battery
i would have to keep my foot on the gas for a second to keep the engine from dying
i thought it was a computer problem, got scared and sold the biotch
I had the same problem on my 95. I thought it was the battery also. I replaced it but that wasnt the problem. I ended up going to the dealer.and they said the idle was too low. It ended up costing about $160 but it solved the problem
It can be any of the things mentioned here -- all of which can be remedied or tested with about 2 hours of effort.
Clean your IACV and your throttle body (which probably needs to be done anyways.) Goto autozone or some place like that and have them test your battery. If you clean those, and the battery is fine, then you might want to have it checked out. But do that first, it will cost you all of $2.99 for the TB cleaner.
