dashboard removal question

I'm gonna be painting my dash sometime this week, and I'm doing a little preliminary planning now. I'm wondering if it would be easier to take the whole dash out and then paint it, or to mask off everything and paint it inside the car. Is it a real PITA to take the dash out? What do y'all think?

There have been 2 threadsa about this in the past week. Look for them. It's easier than you think. If you want it done well, taking the dash out is a smart thing to do.

Dash removal is fairly easy....but a little bit time consuming. Remove all your basic visible screws under the dash on both driver's and passenger's side. Grab a tamper Torx #50 star shaped screwdriver and remove the 5 or 6 torx screws, then drop the steering wheel to the floor by removing its bracket. There are also 2 phillips screws under the defroster vents by the windshield accessible with a long screwdriver. You're done! But back to the thread.....I think its much easier to paint it outside of the car. If you go this route it might be a good idea to grab some squeak tape upon re-installation to save yourself from a few headaches in the future. By the way, what color is your dash and what color are you planning on changing it to? Good luck!

I have the tan interior, so I have the whole 3 color scheme going on right now, with tan cloth, a black radio cluster panel, and the brown dash. I'm gonna paint the whole dash black so I'll only have two colors. I think it will look really good. I've already done several small pieces and the center console.

Post a pic of the dash when you're done. I'd like to see how it turns out. I've got multi colors as well. Tan Leahter and cloth, black center area, some aluminum trim pieces and then the dark brown dash.
