Trunk lock not working..

hey all,

Few weeks ago I noticed that I couldn't use my key to open the trunk anymore.

The trunk release button on the driver-side door still works though.

At first I thought maybe it was just frozen from the winter cold but it's been fairly mild the past few days and the lock still won't turn.

Any suggestions on how to fix this or what it's gonna cost to replace?

Thanks. JP

Simple, whoever owned the car before you was in an accident and didn't bother to get the new trunk key cylinder matched to your key. Then again maybe it's locked somewhere somehow.

I would have to agree with the fact that the previous owner had to replace the trunk, and lock, but never bothered to get a new key. Don't you have keyless entry anyway? I havent used my key once for the trunk, I just use the keyless button for it.

Probably rusted out. I had that happen with mine back last spring. Unfortunately, the safety lock was also switched on and we had to remove the back seat and crawl into the trunk to get it unlocked. Thank god for good friends willing to help you out.

The rusting also happened on my Sentra years ago. No big deal as long as the keyless works.

not sure this might be a stupid to suggest i have a 98 and i went to open the trunk with the remote one day and it was clicking but not poping open then i noticed after i opened it with the key that there is a switch right next to the latch that goes up and down i guess its like a safety or anti theft idk what its purpose is exactly but i moved it in the opposite direction and the remote worked for my trunk again . again just a guess worth a try before swapping stuff

I've had the car for 8 years and the key has always worked until this winter.

I hope it's not rusted. At least the keyless button still works.

Thansk for the suggestion jetB, I'll have a look at it.

If your keyless entry works then the safety lock is not set. If the safety lock is set, the trunk only opens with a key. Trust me, I took my lock apart and it was corroded beyond believe. The only thing that you can do for this is buy a new lock which is not worth it. Especially if the keyless works.

However, on my Sentra I had the same thing happen and I soaked it in WD-40 for a couple of days and it lubed up good enough to function. I didn't have keyless on that car.

Is there a "valet" switch? You may not have a "master" key, and if your valet switch accidentally got set, only a master key will open it. Then again, seems like this is only a recent problem. Probably need to replace some of the pins or the entire cylinder. Call your local locksmith. My estimate: $100

Are you guys even reading the post....he says he noticed he couldnt use his key in his trunk ANYMORE. If the previous owner replaced the trunk obviously the key hole worked for JPMax for a while.....
