High idle (~1700 rpm) after engine warmup on 95 SE

Hopefully someone can help. Cleaned out the TB and butterfly with carb cleaner. Engine runs smoother but high idle condition still remains. Today, after engine warm up, I came to a stop in my driveway with the idle around 1800, turned engine off and immediately started it again and the idle went back to normal (~700 rpm).

Not sure if this indicates problem is intermittent or electrical since shutting it off could have reset it. I was thinking my mass air flow meter could be going bad but I really have no idea.

I found a procedure for cleaning/adjusting the IAC valve but I'm not sure what or where this valve is.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

you should never need to adjust the idle air control valve, if you have high idle fix the problem first. unless it was a bad idle air control valve, just replace it.

I had the same problem after I cleaned my TB. Then (and now) I got a check engine light for the IAC valve, so I am replacing it. I tried to clean it but the light came back on. So I would suggest cleaning the IAC valve, reset the ECU and after a while it should be back to normal if everything is funtioning properly. If not, maybe replace the IAV valve. All 95-98 used the same ones, 99-01 used different ones.

Who told you that? The FSM points out exactly hot to adjust tyour idle. You first have to disconnect the brown connector from the TPS, let the car "calm down" and then use the plastic screw to adjust your idle. Reconnect the connector and you're set.
I also have the high idle once in a while, cleaned the IACV and it didn't help. My idle did drop around 200rpm though after the cleaning so I had to re-adjust. I'll be adjusting the TPS soon so hopefully that fixes it.

Is your heat/AC on? that can raise your idle by a few hundred.

^AC only raises the rpm by 200rpm, not 1000.

Thanks for all the replies. I'll try cleaning the IACV to see if this helps.

Is the IACV also the mass airflow sensor or are these two different parts?

Also, what is the TPS?

The A/C is not on when I'm having this problem.

Thanks again for everyones help. I'll let you know when I get the IACV cleaned.....

no, not the same thing, tps is the black sensor on the TB with the 2 connectors on top. IACV is the thing to the right of the TB, the big intake hose is the IACV hose, has pink, purple, and gray connectors.

Thanks a million for the great help and advice!!

Just got done cleaning out the IACV and readjusted it per the procedure of disconnecting the TPS. So far everything is perfect! Idles great. Tried load/no load....AC on/off, in drive, park, neutral...

Just curious how it will start and run after its been cooled down.

Couldn't believe how dirty the inside of the TB was . Stuck my finger and rag in as far as I could to get some of the gunk out. Fully cleaning the TB looks like a job for another day though.

A couple more questions too. Will a bad IACV and/or a bad mass air flow sensor illuminate the check engine light?

Thanks again!!

Yes, both will give a check engine light. Not sure what code the MAF sensor is but the IAC is 205 cause I have it now.

Po100 is the MAF code, 1400 is the EGR circuit code. Replaced my MAF, cleaned TB, and IACV, ran great for a couple weeks, now it's doing the same thing. High idle after driving, won't idle down unless I shut the car off. Drives fine, shifts fine, runs beautiful, I have a 2000 DE-K motor, with 95 DE coils, UIM, and LIM, TB, and the rest of the top end, all from the 95. I'm thinking maybe IAT sensor? Any ideas? Not getting any CEL though, idles smooth, just high.
