Flashing Airbag Light

I just replaced my gauge cluster, now when I start my car the airbag light flashes. I have no idea what I might have done wrong. It was fine before. Is there a wire or something that can come unplugged?

I have the same problem with my airbag light. I read somewhere on here that all you have to do is turn the key to the accessory position and hit a button on the doorframe where the door closes. I think you have to hit the button 7 times w/in 5 seconds or something, I just havn't bothered to do it on mine so hopefully someone will clarify.

I thought he was saying that it blinks while driving, not just on startup. Mine blinks constantly while driving the car.

I checked the cluster before I sent it to you and none of the lights were acting up. Even if, the cluster wouldn't make the air bag light up. With the old cluster did the airbag light ever come on, did it blink when you first turned the key?

I can't remember exactly but I think it came on for a second when the car was started. Don't get me wrong I wasn't blaming you for a bad cluster. I'm sure it is something I did.

The light comes on steady like normal for the first couple of seconds, then it starts blinking and keeps blinking, it doesn' shut off.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? If I can't figure it out the airbag light is coming out.

Mine has been blinking steadily for two years now. The procedure stated in the FAQ does not seem to work. Either the wiring is sensitive or one of the modules needs to be replaced. Given my current financial situation, it wouldn't be feasible for me to get it fixed.

NO NO NO NO!!! Do this first....9 times out of 10 it is the passenger seat side air bag...the one that is inside of the seat...what you need to do is the following:

Open you door and first locate the button on pillar A....this little button is the drivers door switch and when the door is closed the button is pressed in making the car know that the door is actually closed....it is a small button with black rubber surrounding it. Once you locate it turn your key to the ON position....DO NOT start the car...simply turn the power on so the engine light, battery and everything else is lit without engaging the ignition. Then with the key in the ON position press the drivers door switch at least 10 times within 10 seconds with your finger: in and out in and out fast......then once you have done that turn your key to the OFF position....when i did this I found it easy to turn the key half way between where you take it out and half way between ACC so nothing should be getting power...not even the radio but you should also not be able to pull the key out. Then slose your door and with the key in that same position between taking it out and ACC start the car by turning it towards the ignition.

Since you have a 99 9/10 it is the passenger SEAT airbag....the one that is actually in the seat and Nissan will try to tell you it is faulty but by doing this you will engage the system so it will work again. I know people that have had the seat air bag repaired and then the light has come on within a year. If it was the airbag that was in the dash I would say get it fixed but with it being a seat air bag even if it doesn;t work the rest of the system will. Same thing happened to me and I got it diagnosed luckily for free at the dealership but then did that thing above and it hasn't come back on in 8 months so it should be fine. A lot of times they said it could be caused by a passenger having their feat under the seat where the air bag components are.

Give this a try and PLEASE PLEASE post if you don't get it.....don't waste your money.

Print this out and GO DO IT NOW!!!! It works.....mine went on in March 2004 and was told by Nissan I needed a new passenger side SEAT airbag....the side curtain on that is INSIDE the actual seat of your car if you have that. Nissan said it was VERY common and it is faulty.........follow this!!

MODS PLEASE STICKY THIS!!!!

^^^thanks for that Nick. I actually tried that exact procedure a NUMBER of different times..yes the light goes out for me but once I start driving the light almost ALWAYS returns within 5 minutes or so. And yeah I do agree it is the passenger seat side air bag because I ended up moving the seat around to cause the light to flash.
Anyhow, i'll give it another shot after all this time and see how it goes.

Thanks, I'll have to try that tomorrow. Too late tonight. I don't think I could drive the car with the light flashing, I would go insane.

Also go under your seat and if you have SEAT airbags like I explained make sure ALL connections are nice and tight...that helps a great deal too....some passengers could kick them or pull on them with their feet. Once you make sure all those connections are tight then redo the procedure above.

Mine blinked for a week and I was ready to sell my car....it definately is a prob that NISSAN should fix but since they won't do a recall on that moduel then we have to improvise =)

Nick I did what you said and the light went away!!!! Thanks soo much. I let the car run run for about ten minutes and it didn't come back on. I wont be able to drive it until sunday or monday so I'll see if it stays off. That would be good if this info was in the stickies.
