Just wanted to rant about the Trunk Release on the Maxima.

It releases the trunk whether the car is on or off...that's ridiculous!!!!

I have a $4800 sound system in my Max, and I sure as hell wouldn't want some idiot thief to simply smash my window and reach down and hit the Trunk Release to get to all my goodies.

I disconnected it last time I had my door panels off (was un-installing the speakers to put them in custom kick-panels).

The remote is more convienient anywayz.

What do you all think?

How exactly did you get a non-sony md changer to hook up to a sony head? And do you still use the sony head to control the md changer?

It is a Sony Optical MD.....

It uses the Sony Unilik for control, and the Optical for audio signal.

How bout adding a switch? Disable the trunk button by flicking a switch located somewhere else.

Feh! I guess it's not all that serious.....What dbm said.

I think there is a simple solution to this. In my 97 GLE there is a little metal switch in the trunk at the latch that can make it so the button doesn't work. I think thats right. It either makes the button or the remote not work. I think you push it down to disable the button but im not sure. See if ur car has it. I will check when my Dad gets home with the Max.

Try reading your owners manual!!!

There is a switch that can be flicked by the mechanism on the inside of the trunk door so that it can only be opened by the key. Wallla!

In that case the remote would not work anymore.
I like the remote, just not the switch inside the car working while the car is powered off.....

I think I'm going to rewire it to my ACC power, so it only works when the keys are in the ignition turned forward.

For now, it's disconnected.

I have a more simple solution to this. I took out the trunk release fuse from the fuse box(one inside your car). Now, only way to open the trunk is the key. If you press on the trunk release button, nothing happen. Simple and easy.

My mistake when you said Fiber Optics I though that was the name of the changer and the MD changer. I have a Sony MD changer also. Didn't feel there was a need for the cd changer though. I just record the songs on to an MD and throw it into the changer.

No he likes the remote, he doesn't like the button in the car.... At least he will like the remote until he figures out that other remotes can open his trunk, and other remotes can be programmed to open his trunk, along with doors, etc.....

The switch in the trunk like WaarrEagle said is the best way, you will loss the remote option, but if you care that much for the remote then get an aftermarket alarm that has a window sensor, then you'll keep the remote, keep the button on the inside, plus have an aftermarket alarm that will better protect your car...

Also, I don't know if you knew but if someone decides to not break your window, and rather just pry open your trunk (or hood), then your maxima alarm will activate....
Personally I also like it just the way it is...

You don't need to take the trunk release fuse out. All you need to do is flick the switch in the trunk if you have it.

Yeah, but why not have both? I have an optical (Toslink) connection from my computer to a MD Recorder to make MD's, but you have to play each track completely, synch it all up, and then you have to edit the track names and such.

With my Changer, I can just Burn them with my 16x in 5 minutes, names included....Plus they don't sell many pre-recorded MD's in the stores yet.

The only reason I got the MD was because I got a great deal on it ($200).....Otherwise, CD's, while not as durable, are certainly easier to work with.

I do hope, however, MD Technology gets better, because the disks are smaller and more durable, and it would be nice if they were easier (and less time consuming) to record on to, and they were more available in stores.

Then I'd probably throw my Changer out.

Anyway, that's another topic.

HA! You found me!!!

I will try and get ahold of a camera this weekend....

I have to redo the driver's side...it doesn't fit perfectly (It's hard when you don't know what angle to drive the screw at to make everything line up.)...but it's REALLY close.

The passenger side looks perfect.

Just imagine the way it used to look, except in gloss black.

Oh I forgot to mention that I have a SONY MXD-D3 (CD to MD Recorder) at home, it records 4X. NOt as quick as 16X but it's hell of a lot quicker than sitting there for the entirety of the song or CD. Have you heard about MDLP. It allows you to record 300+ minutes onto a MD.

Yeah, I know that, but there's no point leaving the fuse in even if you do flick the switch in the trunk. Just an insurance.

No, I've never heard of MDLAP. Where do I get it?
How's it work?

How do you get the music to record at 4x??? The only way I've found to record is to hit "Play" on my MP3/CD Player on my computer and wait.

Do you have a CD-MP3 Unit?
