Throttle hard to push - n00b question

I know this is probably an n00b question, but in my defense I have spent the last hour looking for my answer here.

My 97 / auto has been doing this off an on for about a year. When you let off the throttle and then push down again it sticks and is really hard to push. Just for a fraction of an inch though, then all is well. You can sort of tap it lightly before you push and it won't stick on occasion??? WTF? My stealership told me I needed to "clean my TPS" (for about 200 bucks - uhhuh?).

I guess the main question is does this sound like a TPS problem, Throttle Body gunk, linkage issue or is my dealership trying to "clean" me???

thanks,
lameo

Sounds like a classic dirty TB. It's pretty easy to clean. Here's a how-to: http://www.motorvate.ca/mvp.php/517.

Terran,
thanks for the info, that's what I thought and have seen a LOT of information about cleaning the TB so far here.

Look forward to contributing when and where I can - lameo

might have something to do with your throttle plate. could be rubbing againsts the TB.

if you have a aftermarket intake, make sure the bolts by the throttle are in the way.
