Should there be oil on this sensor

I'm been doing just some maintenance stuff, etc. all the same time while trying to figure out my cars many minor issues. In the process of checking why in the heck it takes forever to start I removed the camshaft position sensor. Its the sensor located on the left side of the engine about mod point down torwards the front of the engine and is held on by only one bolt.

Anywho seeing that behind this cover is also the timing chaing, water pump and various other pullies, bearings. I was wondering should this sensor have been covered in oil??
Just seems odd given its location of taking reading from the inside of the timing chain cover to be covered in oil.

By the way I also have some timint chain tensioner whining .

mine had oil on it, on both my maximas in fact. either thats normal, or theyre both f'ed up. i cleaned it off and stuck it back in. are you still having starting problems? check the sensor located to the right of the oil filter, 10mm bolt, those are teh crankshaft position sensors (REF) and (POS). and check the toher sensor thats attached to the bracket for the 02 sensor located on the tranny bell housing, clean them off and itll start faster.
