Bumpy Ride

I have a 95 SE 5-speed with about 140k miles on it. It seems like it is kind of a bumpy ride, like on the interstate is fine, but when I hit little bumps I can feel them. I pushed down on the front and back of the car and the struts are stiff. The car comes right back up and doesn't bounce. I am not sure if they have been replaced or not, but they seemed ok when I did the bounce test. Do SE's normally ride stiffer? Any ideas?

If your car is at the stock ride height, factory springs, SE GLE whatever and you want a nice smooth quiet ride throw in a set of Tokico Blue Performance struts and rear shocks. They will give your car a "new car" like ride.

se's usually comes with stiffer springs, but just replace your shocks, or maybe you do have aftermarket struts already?

No I don't think they are aftermarket. But if you do the bounce test, shouldn't they be allright.

i replaced my nissan struts with kyb's and my car isnt lowered...but it rides just like you explain it. i hate it...if its gonna ride this bad i might as well lower it but seeing as how i use my car for personal and business use it just isnt practical

=T my suspension is completely stock as well. Given I have a GLE, i thought i'd have that 'luxurious' ride, but coasting around 25mph, I feel a bump every other second. @ 50mph, i get a shake. I can't blame it on alignment or balance since I've done that 4 times in 2 months for temporary relief. Wheel bearings? Bent rim? my friend's 01 wrx rides softer than my GLE. maybe my struts are blown? but teins&illuminas for ~450+install, just not for my college wallet just yet.

Well I am not sure what struts are on my car. Can struts still be bad if you push down on the car and it passes the bounce test.

yeah its the gr-2's im using them with the stock springs. the only positive about them is that they reduce body roll but other than that it feels like the car is lowered 2 inches

Yeah I would think the struts would of been replaced. I bought the car with 120k and now it has 140k. How long do the stock struts last.

awwww hell. the owner before you might of never change the struts. i would say go with some kyb' s to improve your ride. but then again the bouncy rear is a maxima thing.follow a maxima on a bumpy road sometimes. you will be amazed.

i have a 96 gle with h&R's, and kyb gr2's. i had a 95 with the same setup. ive bent 2 sets of 18" rims, that had 40 series tires on them. i just downgraded to 17's with a 45 series tire. had them about a month, already have a shake from bent rims. i had a 93 typhoon with stock suspension with kyb's, that rode horrible too. had a monte ss with kybs, ride was decent, but that was also with 15" inch rims. i just spent 1200 in rims and tires for this car to try and make the ride better cause i kept bending 18's. a little over 3 weeks later, and im rite back in the same boat. when this 96, and my older 95 were lowered years ago, the kyb gr2 was suppose to be " the best choice" in struts. the tokico blue's kept blowing, the agx was way overpriced. i even blew two sets of tokico blues on my typhoon until i went with the kybs. lemme tell you.. there should be a friggin sticky now " DO NOT USE KYB GR2's ON LOWERED CARS ". you want a review on the long term effects of these struts on a lowered max? i had two. THEY RIDE ON BOTH OF THEM WERE COMPLETELY HORRIBLE, AND THIS COMBO LED HAS LED TO NOTHING BUT EXPENSIVE COMPLICATIONS AND CARS THAT DO NOTHING BUT RATTLE. i am currently deciding weather on not to invest anymore money into this car to change the struts, or if i should just cut my losses and sell it or trade it in. my car looks nice, but as soon as you get in it and drive, its at the point where its embarassing. i wish that somebody had written something like this years ago.

get better shocks and springs the 95-99 come with tokico blues stock to take that into consideration so upgradin would be to something higher

I am still trying to find out how to know if the struts are bad or not. I mean my struts are stiff when I push down on the car and it doesn't bounce on the way back up.

well you could put the car on the lift and see if they are leaking or if hit a bump and your tire has no control they could be blown. if its just riding rough and you have stock suspension they are probably just worn but not blown...believe me you will know when they are blown

Yeah I mean it doesn't ride that rough. It just seems like for a car that should ride good, you can feel the bumps a little more than I would expect.

I feel a lot of the bumps with the gr2's and maxspeeds but the handling is much better.
