I have a '98 maxima with stock bose stereo, and i was wondering if it's possible to add RCA input jacks to the bose stereo? I really want to do this so that i don't have to use a stupid tape adapter to connect my mp3 player to the bose system, not to mention the poor playback quality from using the tape adapter. You need a line level converter. Just splice it in with your speaker outputs and it will give you line level RCA outputs. You can get them at any car audio shop, probably $20.

 

I hooked up my pioneer to my factory bose system & the sound is phenominal,I would definately recommend it & a sub

 

I don't see how either of those replies are answering the OPs question. You can get a aux input adapter if you have CD-changer capability but it costs $100. Best alternative i think is a wired FM modulator. Sound quality is almost as good as CD.

i have what you are looking for. i would be wiling to sell it to you for little cost. i bought it from cobymoby, you plug and play and it adds two sets of rca plugs. i used to hook up an amp and subs, but dont use it anymore. pm if interested.

 

does anyone know where to get the adapter for the CD changer input on the back of the HU? I have a 95 Bose HU and i can't find it anywhere. this is newer technology and the shops in my area don't have all the newer catalogs. anybody with some help? either a place to buy or even a part number from a supplier?

Ok, a couple of things i need to understand:

1) what is an FM modulator? is it those small devices you buy at an electronics store that connects to your CD/MP3 player via a jack & it transmits the audio through radio waves?

2) what is the nissan antenna adapter needed for?

3) eckohb - what is it exactly that you have that you can sell me? is it these FM modulator things?

An FM modulator converts line level (or headphone jack) into an FM signal. There are both wired and wireless versions. I reccomend the wired version as it works much better. The audiovox model that i have works great even driving through LA where there are many radio stations. I just installed a wired FM modulator using the nissan diversity antenna adapters and it works flawlessly. I just tune the radio to the pre-determined station and instant high-quality music. Its hard to tell the diffrence between CD and modulated sound from my mp3 player. Installation was quite easy, i just removed the radio, tapped into the 12V ignition wire going into the radio, and plugged in the antenna connections using the adapter. Later on, i plan to add a relay that will lower the antenna when the modulator is turned on.

 

there was a guy on here a looong while back in the Audio forum selling a plug that goes into an empty port on the back of 4th gen non bose and bose radios converting that into an AUX input. I know exactly what you are looking for but i dont rememmber where or who was selling these. Ill look around online for you and get back to you

What I did WAS.
Bought a panasonice MP3 deck that has RCA outputs on the back of it.
Got a wiring harnest from the store MADE for The Maximas with the bose steroes.
Plus the rca's from the harnest to your deck, and it works.
one draw back, not sure if it is because of this, but My stereo makes a "pop" noise when I change songs.... I tried to trouble shoot.. not that much though.

 

That solution requires a new deck and the bose integration adapter. The original question asked how to do it with the stock bose. It can be done with simple soldering and $5 in parts.

 

And some blood, swearing, stress , hours of your time..... Plus its Shady "jimmy rig" type fix

Anyway, you can do with with a wired FM modulator, but personally I had horrible results as I didn't buy the antenna adapter, I just cut the end off and spliced. Ended up buying a new head unit anyway.

or you can just do the 20 minute mod here and get it over with. its not hard and it g ives you a direct hardwire connection right into the HU.

 

a line level converter. ok that gets rid of the hooking up RCA's question for me. but also, amps have a remote wire that you have to hook up to the stereo which wire would you splice that remote wire into?

 

ROGER THAT...thats waht i did i got mine free i got hook-ups...for remote wier just tap into the power wire for the BOSE amps that are on the speakers they turn on with the headunit....i will tell u what wire it is when i get home...or if i run out to my car...but i think its RED

What options are there for a 3rd Gen Bose Unit? I have the Bose with the slide out tray under it. I think you would call that a single DIN???

 

will do...but u know where i am talking...the lil pods that attach to the speakers...those are teh amps......and it will be one of the wires that goes into that plug on it.....but i will check

 

I bought a line level converter but it only has 4 wires. my question is does it matter which speaker wires I splice into? It has two wires for the right speaker and two wires for the left. Do I splice into the front two speakers or the rear two speakers or does it matter? thanks
