I have my V1 hardwired into the reading lights of my 99' max. If you want to hardwire it there, it's pretty much self explanatory...just run the clip to the light power source, and use one the the screws up on the rear-view mirror for ground (if I can remember correctly). The most you need to take apart is the rear-view mirror...and that reading light panel. The only problem I had was trying to get the kit to fit in between the headliner and the winshield. It's kind of tight, but not bad....just gotta pull on it some.

We ran the hardwire between the windsheild and headliner, down the inside of the pillar and then through the dash to the radio power/negative. Soldered the connections and it all worked great.

We were going to try the map light power but I had heard there might be an issue with power...so better safe than sorry I suppose.

- maximum810...Comin to the DNE meet on Saturday??? lol

I have run it through the A pillar on several cars. It is pretty easy. If you look under the steering wheel there is a white/blue wire I think. It is a good wire to splice into if you don't want to use the cig lighter.

for a 5th gen but same concept http://www.freestyleconcepts.com/v1.html

The only drawback about running the hardwire to the reading lights is that the radar detector will stay on after the car is off....no biggie...manual shutoff.
Since the road-course day is also on Saturday on the opposite end of DFW...it'll be tough to say if I can show up, but I'd like to...not that it's too far...just my car will be beaten up some. Since a few of you are going to ATS to dyno that day....why don't you stop by TMS and check out the course???

I've been meaning to do this for a while and haven't had the time yet.

Where are you guys mounting your detectors? I have mine mounted relatively low on the dash and I was going to run mine out the defroster vent from the cigarette lighter power wires.

Now there's a thought...I wonder how long of a kitchen pass I can get.

Mine is mounted right next to the rearview mirror...windshield tint strip hides it somewhat. No way I'd leave my v1 down by the defroster vents for everyone to see here in Dallas.

...Umm, my hardwire is an old telephone cord I used...I think it's a couple of bucks brand new so I don't have any worries about that.

Mine is in the middle of my windsheild down closer to the dash. I ran it into the left vent in the middle of the dash and just down behind the stereo and to the back of the cig lighter.

I ran my wires down the pillar, grounded on a screw under the dash and ran a wire to my fuse box, pulled out a fuse that is used when the can is turned on and pushed the wire in where the fuse was and put the fuse back in. Same thing is done to my truck so when i Switch back and fourth I just bring the radar detecter with me.
