What Does An Intake System Do??
i was thinking of buying one of the cold air intake systems off ebay..............to be exact, what does these intake do? if i install them, does it give the car a different sound like a muffler or something like that??

An aftermarket intake systems essentially allows the engine to "breathe" easier, thereby supposedly increasing horsepower.. And it makes a much louder "VRoooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMSSHHHHHHHHH " sound...or something along those lines. Yeah, check the sticky icky ickays.

let's not give the noob a hard time guys,we've all been there at one point.
Like Madmvd said, increases power (by very little) cold air intakes give a nice throaty sound,as opposed to short ram intakes which dont give much sound. Best bet is to do the hacked air box mod,see how you like that cuz it's free,if not,get a CAI.

Dip your current filter in water and install jsut after it's soaked (2-5 mins) and utilize the H2O molecules as efficiently as possible.
As once the engine is in a vacuum when just as when you open the throttle, it chemically seperates the O atom from the 2 Hydrogen thus become more oxygen rich, and burning more effieicntly, you must use 91 or hogher octane. As the octane is derived from the "oct" which translates to "8", as is also representative of the chemical configuration of the octance molecule.

Unless it's an INJEN HAI (Hot Air Intake) becuase it sits right behind the radiator.

The reason it sounds louder is because you are eliminating the resonator box in your intake.. hence the deep sound.

Case in point: my popcharger. Stock resonator, but cone filter instead of air box. DEF louder than stock.

Ya try the hacked airbox with a drop in K&N I loved it. It gives a pretty deep sound to heavy acceleration. I got the INJEN CAI just cause I wanted another mod that shows. More airflow to the engine = more combustion = more power Along with a more free flowing exhaust helps increase performance too

also if your really worried about the possible heat issues w/ the location with the correct install, use a heatshield.

Just did the hacked airbox thing to my Max last week. I don't know about any HP gain, but it definitely sounds better when the gas is pressed down and the rpms go past 3500. It sounds the same as stock while cruising though. Hard to explain the sound, but it's definitely different from stock. More "throaty" sound as others have said.

there wont be a big difference...seriosuly..but yeah maybe a couple HP u will gain some. Nissan has really good intakes.
