I don't think there is a set way that they must be done. Can I suggest that you use google?

This mod is pretty much staight forward. Some have used 194 bulbs while others have used 5mm LEDs for this mod. First, you will need to drill the appropriate hole or holes into the headlight. I find it easier to first open the headlight via the oven method so that clean up is easy. Next, attach the bulb holder and glue it or mount it in place. Mine are mounted on the top of the headlight so they are not visible unless looking directly at them from the ground. I glued/sealed them using silicon glue. It's been over 1.5 years and I have no problem with condensation. Finally, wire the light to a SPST switch powered by the battery or use a relay to control the power when parking lights are turned on. There are numerous ways to go about powering the city lights so choose a method that suits your application. Here is a pic of my LED city light retro. As always, take your time and have fun modding.

Can someone take a step back for a second and define what "city lights" are?

Thanks.

I am now using 84 red 5mm 14000mcd LEDs and 2 6" UV CCFLs to light the gauges and needles. The high number of LEDs used was to provide an even level of lighting and prevent spot lighting normally caused by LEDs. The LEDs are wired to power on automatically when parking lights are on and the CCFLs are wired to a SPST switch to be powered on independently. The needles have been sanded down from the bottom to give the glow effect. This mod is very time consuming and requires the use of a soldering iron and dremel. I will not cover how to go about performing this mod since it is difficult to describe wiring, placement and aiming of the LEDs. If you have a fair level of knowledge on LEDs and resistors then you will be able to discern the process fairly quickly. The majority of time spent on this project will be on aiming the LEDs to evenly light your guages.

This should be fairly intuitive. City lights are lights that provide your headlights with the appearance of being on without the output normally provided by your normal headlight bulbs. They are to be used at night while driving through well lit city streets. Hence, the name city lights. IMHO, this is more of a bling mod and has no real/practical benefit.

That's just insane.

You can decrease the number of LEDs needed if you get ones that have a wider viewing angle. The ones I used were only 10°. Usually, the wider viewing angle LEDs tend to cost more so there will be a trade off. Try what ever number you like and see if it lights up to your expectations. If not, then keep adding more until it does. This mod is tailored to the owner so there is no correct way to go about completing it.
