The gear you're in wont make much difference if your tires suck and you don't know how to drive.

I second the learn how to drive. Someone spinned out and completely blocked the street yesterday and I had to drive my car into a fire hydrant to avoid hitting him, luckily only damage was a bent license plate. When it snows, DONT DRIVE FAST and stay off the gas.

I don't know how fast you were driving but you really shouldn't play in the Max unless you have good snow tires. I drove 20 to 25 mph last night through the blunt of the snowstorm. The conditions were horrible and the worst I've ever driven though in my life. Slow speed is the only thing that will help in weather like that.

well im in CT and the weather that day was horrible....best thing you can do is get some snow tires and ditch the rear sway bar if you have one....i swear since i put that on i can slide the rear end out. could also be the crappy rear beam

You somehow did a 180 in a front wheel drive without pulling the e-brake......just slow down and get better tires and you should be okay. Giving it too muich gas out of a turn shouldnt make you lose the end in our cars, but making the turn to fast will. BTW do you have a rear-sway bar?

thanks for your replies (except for the smart *** ones that seem to just want to get another post). I drive very slowly in the snow, so keep your learn how to drive comments to yourselves.......

for those who actually provided some help, thanks again. i do not have a rear sway bar. im not sure about the ebrake comment with a front wheel drive but it did happen. this happened on a day after a big snow storm. the snow is usually all cleared up by then. i didn't realize i guess i was on an icy part of the road until it was too late. of course the cars ahead of me and behind me were flying by without any problems.

hmm.... I pass SUVs on 84 in the snow....I have pretty beefy AS tires and no RSB tho....buts its really about steering and throttle/brake control in the snow.
