go with anything around 5000K that'll give you the whitest

retrofitting can be referred to just installing the HID bulb and ballast into your stock headlight or fitting projectors into your stock housing. projectors will just give you much better beam control

The higher Kalvin rating you go the more color, BUT you give up light output. Putting HIDS in your stock housing without a retrofit of projectors, in my opinion, is pointless and stupid. Because of the glare that our stock housing gives with 9004 HID, you are forced to aim them allllll the way down, which hinders the light output even more, because it is only luminating directly in front of you, which defeats the entire purpose of getting HIDs. If you want HIDs than go with the projectors.

and another thing, how is custom maximas hid kits? anyone have it? so if the lower the k rating the better light output, why for the 9004 kits the 5000k is cheaper than the 6,7,1200k kits? are you just paying for color? thankyou both for helping me understand better -jeff-

not true.....if youaim them down a good amount and aim them to the side alittle you will not e blinding other people near as much. I have mine aimed down and i get great visibility, if it got worst i would chage back to halogen which i will never do on this car. If you aim them good you will not hinder your visibilty much at all. I have had the kit of for almost a year and half and i have not got flashed once since i have had them in there and adjusted correctly.

i do not care what he says it works well.....

now if you have the time and everything needed to do projectors and are willing to do it then go that way. Projectors are much better thans a retrofit kit, but retro-fit blows normal halogen away.

Kalvin must be a friend of Kelvin...

I say it a million times on the org and ill mention it again. Having retrofit projectors are the best bet since our housing scatter like crazy. But an alternative to this is to aim headlights down to avoid direct beam to other drivers. It will still cause some glare, but not as bad.

my phillips 6000k kit provides very good output with a crisp white light and hint of blue. Again, retrofiting is the best bet, but in other cases, point them b!tches down in the meantime.

Custommaxima HID kits are crap and are very expensive. 4300k has best output (OEM) with a pure white light. Go for kits before 6000k.

Once you go HID, you won't go back. It bothers the hell out of me when ppl who have never owned a reputable kit claim there is no usable light, blah blah blah. Mine are not pointed all the way down, but i barely get flashed. Look into the stickies and follow the directions on aiming headlights down.

Well I have a kit so I can speak from experience and say that if you have the money to buy a kit, then just do a retro. Yes a kit will provide substanially way more light than halogens but the light is scattered and it will glare. Aiming lights down defeats the purpose of having HIDs. If you don't have down road visibility then what's the point. Plus you loss your high beams. The hell with what anyone one else says You need your high beams. Even with HID. Try flashing some one with your HIDs and see how long they last. I plan on doing a retro soon. The reason people can sell kits with higher Ks and less lumens is because people are dumb enough to buy it. Any bulb rated over 6000K is pure ****. Try driving in the rain with those 8000K+ bulbs. You might as well drive with your eyes closed. Dude learn from our mistakes and get projectors retro'ed in.

very true. the cost of parts for retrofitting is not much more than what a kit cost.

all halogen reflector housing will glare when you stick a HID bulb in there. the HID bulbs have different dimensions and the arc of light is also at a different spot compared to where the filament is in a halogen bulb.
