Staging Lane Tragety.....

Sup guys,
Well tonight I went out to Sacramento Raceway (Drag), and decided to get a few runs in. The whole point of going was to get things off my mind and have some fun. Well so i'm on the staging lanes and lined up ready to go. Rev up to about say 2800rpm, then I intended to slip the clutch on launch but seems to have dropped it pretty fast. Next thing you know I hear a clunk and rpm jump up. Though i broke an axle or something. Well turns out I can't move anywhere. As if the clutch was completely slipping. I can get into gear fine and it feels normal. Pedals feel good as if nothing was wrong. So my guess is that i have fried my clutch. Well got it towed home eventually, and didn't even get one run in. I get to have fun tearing it down now.......

fried your clutch? Your profile says you have a GLE ....

If you do have a five speed, then you might just need to adjust the clutch travel. If it was remotely loose and you abused it a bit, it can twist out rather quickly. My friend and I got stuck downtown in rush hour because he neglected to properly tighten down the locking nut on his 300zx. Might be worth a try, especially if your clutch is relatively new. I put a new clutch in last summer, and since i've abused the snot out of it (really cheap POS, don't buy exedy, I can't wait to replace it again) and I can get it to slip pretty easily, but it always goes back to catching once I let off a bit.

Hah thats exactly what I did but on the passenger side... Only difference is I had driveshaft shop axles rated for 450 hp. It's so embarassing pushing your car back and away from the staging lane..

the same thing happened to me and im auto. but it sounds like your axle, the clutch would of dropped if it went. maybe your lucky it did go and take the brupt of the force instead of it reaching the tranny.

Atleast it happened there and not while the car was running down the track.

hell no. Why take it apart if that is not the problem? Put a new axle in there and go back next week! Things like that happen all the time at the track. Once I saw a old grocery getter take off down the track and right after the 60' the rear wheel and axle came off!!!! No SHiat, I got it on video somewhere. That was one of the funniest things I have ever seen on the track.

Yeah I'd just hate for it to happen again....If I didn't have AAA Plus Membership it would have cost me $200-300 to get it towed home....Also it was the first time I went out of town after the 5spd conversion and the swap...
