Just noticed a potential headache
Hey, I have only had my 99 Max since October, and it's been running fine. Yesterday I left my headlights on for five hours and killed the battery, while I was getting a jump from my friend's 300ZX he noticed that my fan wasn't spinning. I looked and sure enough it wasn't and my car was makind a wierd high shreik noise from around that area. I thought it was just the serpentine belt when I heard it a couple weeks ago, but now I see that my fan isn't working. Any one have any ideas about what could be going on and how much it would be to fix it? I know I need to get my fan up and running asap. I just want to know the damage. Thanks a lot for your help in advance.

your fan only runs when your a/c is on or when your coolant temp is like above 210 degrees. it wont run as soon as you start the car. is it overheating? if not then there is nothing wrong w/ your fan. as for the squeel...it was from your belts. since your battery was dead that put a strain on your alternator when you first started it up which in turn put an extra strain on the belts which arent tight enough or are just plain old. car is fine. tighten the belts.

You could of also been hearing the " full fielding" of the alternator. What that means is when your battery is very low the alternator senses that and produces very high amperage the charge the battery back to a full charge. The winding or humming should stop after the battery recharges. Just so you know it's not recommended to make an alternator charge that high.It could over strain your alt. It's recommemded to leave the vehicle that's boosting you on it for a while longer.
