White LEDs not comming out so white in gauges and shifter?

So I bought white LEDs to put behind my gauges and shifter. I had blue LEDs before and they came out awesome, but when i put my white ones in, they werent as white as i expected. I tested them out on the door lights to see if it was the LED that had miscoloration, and they were pure white. I had an extra auto shifter plate around here so I took it apart and to my surprise I found out that under the letter/numbers for the gears, there is like some kind of blue layer of film or something of the sort, nothing that I can really take out. Is there any way to get rid of that layer so that the light shines pure white? I'm assuming that the same goes for the gauges cause I'm getting the same kind of reponse from the LEDs. i'll try and take a picture of the shifter plate later so you can understad what i'm talking about.

i think i know what you mean, i recently tried to put in white led's in my gauges but they don't have enough brightness. I was only successful in making the needles white. Anywayz, you are better off getting polarg or piaa 194's (non-LED) types for gauge or shifter lighting.

there's a blue tint behind the numbers so you'll never get a pure white anyway.

Yes, Wariow is right. There's a Blue VHT behind the Black Gauges. If you use a regular White LED, it will show up blueish/maybe even purplish. I recently threw in Polarg M4's and I have no problems with a hint of blue whatsoever. The Speedo Gauge sometimes is a fairly light pink...but after a min or 2 of warming up it goes right to bright white.

Here's Pics (please excuse Camera Phone):

PS: That Blue hinted Gauge section is a WHITE LED from Superbright LED's. Goes to show you exactly what we mean about the Blue VHT behind the gauges.

if you already have it out of your car, the shifter is basically 2 main peices, getting a small flathead screw driver and pry the 2 peices form each other, try not to break it =)
