Motorvate.Ca's Front Brake Job
Im about to follow the instructions on motorvate for the front brake job..both pads and rotors. Anyone follow his steps before..do u think anything needs to be clarified..did u run into any surprises..any general tips to make this go smoother would be appreciated.
One other question...I am on a tight budget thats why i want to do the brake job myself. Autozone has rotors for like 30 bucks a piece. Are these junk or should i spend the 60 dollars a piece on rotors at NAPA. Pads seem to be 40 dollars or so everywhere ive seen. I was thinking of ceramic.. Any suggestions?

I got my rotors from AutoZone for $20 each and the Morse ceramic pads were about $40 (when you open the pads, there will be 4 flat shims that you need to stick onto the pads - last shop that did my front brakes forgot to put them on and the caliper piston went like half way through the pad...)
Everything is pretty much straight forward, no surprises...

No suprises, pretty straight forward. Just notice how the rubber pieces are placed on the caliper pins before you take them off. Dont install them backwards. Also make sure your brake fluid doesnt overflow when you are compressing the caliper. Get some anti-squeel to put on the back of the pads($3)

Which pads generally need to be replaced first - the front or the back? I was under the impression that it would be the front. But I was told in January that I had 50% left to the wearbar on the front and 40% on the rear. That was at 56K. I have probably 80% highway miles on my car (its not a daily driver).
Also, when are pads typically changed. The way I'm going I will have at least 85K on the front and more on the back before they need to be changed.
My car is a 5-speed, not an autotragic.

fronts always go out first. general rule is 2 fronts to one back. so the secound time you do your fronts do the back. good luck it's easy just take your time dont rush and do it right the first time.

my autozone rotors serve me just fine on the rears. i havnet done the front ones yet, but thers a screw in which you insert a bolt to pop the rotors out, thatll save you alot of time instead of trying to bang them off.
