K&N suggest re-oiling(sp.) every 60k miles. I'de say it's as good of a filter as any with a great warrantee. I guess if you find another filter with that warrantee for cheaper then go for it. 3 years and one oiling of my K&N and it still works great.

I used a K&N filter for years and thought they were better, but the way they achieve better flow is bigger holes in the filter. Just hold a new K&N filter up to a good light and you'll see what I mean. There are microscopic holes all thru the filter element. You will never see K&N advertise that their filter does a better job filtering. I switched back to paper for my stock intake and it definitely works better for the low end. I think the K&N flows better in the higher rpm ranges. Not sure how much dirt the K&N will let thru those microscopic holes....probably not much when it's all oiled up. My preference is the paper element.

I'm not a big fan of K&N though I've had the panel since 1998. It's not that there is really anything wrong with it, just that in my opinion it's way overpriced and unnecessary. I'd rather just stock up with about 5-6 OEM filters for the price of one K&N. Once that K&N is cleaned/reoiled, it has less flow than a brand-new OEM. The geniuses in marketing removed that info from the K&N website, but it's on my original box which is 7 years old.

Anyway, the OEM air filter is pretty good. Does the job and with a 25% discount, no tax no shipping, it offers the best bang-for-buck on your $.

I wanna pick up a kool blue or the air hog panel and make a custom intake with the stock box and resonator. Like I said, plain paper filters filter the best and flow the least.

Any concerns about me having a heart attack and croaking soon are overblown. The rumors of my demise are premature, lol! I happen to like my K&N filter. I've only had it for about 5K or so and haven't taken it out to look at it. All I could ever get out of the OEM filter was about 22,500 miles, not the 30K that Nissan recommends replacing them.

I would think K&N tests their filters clean/oiled and after xx miles. You have a link I can see that states this?

i like my stock box.... maybe later, i will try other brands of paper filter, but not now...

My last 2 cents: Think about this for a minute - K&N states that their filters efficiency increases with use.... added clogging dirt increases filtering! So where is the sweet spot here between new out'a the box and several thousand miles of driving? Cleaning and re-oiling starts this cycle over again. Have there been demonstrated increases in HP or MPG with this filter? I havent seen any.
My personal experience with K&N over 50K+ miles is no efffect.
So what is the point? - I wised up and took my K&N out and replaced it with a OEM part.
