speedometer is dying - help

My speedo stays at zero alot and then after a while will spring to life. Sometimes it dies again while driving. If you bang it hard, that will revive it oftentimes.

Any idea on what I need to fix/replace?

Thanks

My guess is your car is a Late 1996. built in 1995. 1995 speedometers and odometers are prone to failure. You can bang on it but eventually it will not work. You'll have to replace the speedometer/odometer.

easy.. http://www.geocities.com/amixam69/ni...ash/index.html

before replacing the entire thing try blowing out any dust on the components and retightening the screws that hold it in on the backside. Retighting the screws on the backside fixed mine...

if your speedo/odometer is bad, DO NOT go to nissan. they will charge you about $400 just for the little part that goes in the cluster. just buy a used cluster off someone on the .org for about $50-100.
