MA inspection with the 20% tint?

Hey, I know my info says I have a 2000 se, but this thread is for my friend, since he can't make new threads yet. He has '98 maxima with 20% tint which has been previously registered here in NYC, but he has got it registered in MA now and the car didn't pass the inspection because of the tint. So my question is if any of you know the place to pass inspection in MA without removing the tint-even if he has to put some extra money down ... By the way, the is registered in Pittsfield. Thank you in advance!!!!

I'm a bit confused did he mean to get it registed in MA?

I believe tinting laws are state wide so if he cant pass it in his state then there isnt really anywhere he can go to pass it (thats in his state).

Unless you guys know someone or can pay off the person doing the inspection to over look it.

Its tough here in massachusetts to have tinted windows, most inspection sticker shops will reject you with illegal tint. My suggestion would be to ask around and find a shop that will help you out. I have a friend here in rockport who helps me out with my 15 percent tint every year. If he can't find anyone to pass him, just peel it off and retint them. Another friend of mine does incredible tint work and i would be willing to go with him to his shop to retint the windows for cheap money. Also, im sure he knows but you can have your windows in the back as dark as you want but you have a 35 percent limit on the front two windows. I wish you luck and hope everything works out for you.

Thanks 1997blackmaxima, I wanted to try to do it in Pittsfield but the guy at the station I went to didn't even want to take 5 bucks tip, so I don't think he will thank me trying to bribe him with $100 to pass the inspection....... And I don't really want to peel it off, I gave $200 for the tint and it is so nice :-(....

Well, I got 35% in NY, but really wanted 20% because 35% is very light for my taste, but can't afford to pay more tickets to the corrupted cops; around here you always find a shop/guys willing to take a tip to pass you the inspection; so you have to look around until you find someone, give them at least $20 and tell them if a cop pulls you over you will tell him you just tint the windows a couple days ago after inspection; other thing you can do find out at motor vehicles or at the police precint to get dark tint permission as per you got problems with sunlight on your sensitive skin or eyes, of course they will ask you for a doctor prescription. Good luck.

Nope! The front 2 windows have to be of legal tint 35%. Same with my current Max and my 3rd Gen. The back can be as dark as you want, as long as the front is no less than 35%.

Massachusetts is a stupid state. And this is only one example.

I suggest you go to a tint shop and find out if they know anyone that is a little more lenient.

If you were a slick new yorker you would just scan someone else's inspection sticker, photoshop it, and print it out for you!

But you're not a slick New Yorker so you wouldnt do that.

I go to a place in dalton (which is near pittsfield). I can't say what they would do about tint, but they seem to be pretty easy going. A few years back with my last car they passed me with a somewhat leaky exhaust and duct tape over a pretty good sized hole in the fender. I'd go on a sunny day and roll down all the windows...might help. What's his SN? I can PM him the info and he could give it a try...no guarentees though. He might have to suck it up and get it retinted.

I have the same setup for tint. I used to have 20% all around and I failed inspection as well. Goodluck, I know how it feels to have to pull off tint and get new tint.

Talking about slick New Yorker-you can't even imagine what I have done with a lot of stuff and papers And when you fail inspection and don't pass it in 60 days your registration is canceled! So how are you sugesting to make it in photoshop and sending the proof to RMV

Why is Mass a stupid state? I'd much rather live in Mass than New York. Ridiculous car insurance rates and 8% state tax. In New Hampshire you can't have ANY tint on your front windows. ( But all are allowed to carry a shotgun)

In Georgia you can carry a gun anywhere as long as it is not concealed.

I'd carry a gun if I drove through newark

Remove all your tinted windows. Except the front which probably isn't tinted. And then put them all back on. If they ask where are your windows say you are having them inspected at MIT for hazardous materials. They should certify you.

That is a great idea. Just take the windows out. They have to pass you. Would they fail a convertible because it had no roof?

Armelius you are an honorary slick new yorker. Ingenious!
