Replacing Antenna?

I just bought a 95 GXE, but the antenna is busted. The antenna rod is bent right at the base. Has anyone ever replaced it? If so, how hard was it, and what parts would I need? Any help would be appreciated.

I've always wanted to look into converting to one of the antennas on lexus's that sit on the top rear of the roof and don't move. I hate our antenna.

I replaced mine with one that goes in the windshield. When I have some more time I'm going to completely remove the rear antenna mast and weld in the hole so it's nice and smooth.

Aren't there already 2 antennas? I thought there was one in the glass, and one on the fender. I plan to put a switch inline with my antenna so I can only raise it when reception sucks.

I know there is something in the rear window glass that is supposed to be an antenna, but I got another one that is amplified to replace the motorized antenna.

yes, there is one along the defroster lines, and the stock HU takes the signal from whichever one is best.

I just got a quote today for $120 Canadian to fix my antenna. The reception is fine but it doesn't retract all the way cause its bent. If I got rid of it would the reception with the 2nd rear glass antenna be fine? Are there any writeups on how to put one of those shark antennas on the roof?

$120 is a ripoff. If the mast is broken you can get a new one for $15. If not, lubricate it and it will usually be able to retract all the way. (that was the case with mine). I think the best solution would be to wire in a switch, that keeps the antenna lowered and use it only when reception is poor.

What did you lubricate it with? They told me it was bent, but I could give it a try...I know I wouldn't be able to figure out wiring for a switch but it sounds like a good idea. The stupid thing never retracts in the winter anyway cause of the ice buildup.

On my car, all I know is that the antenna is bent, and I can barely receive any AM or FM stations.

i just used some wd-40, cause that's all I had. I would make sure you clean it really well first, and then use a water-resistant lubricant. put a rag at the base while doing this to keep drips off the paint.

Hmmm, I think I may need the entire unit. When I turn it to the radio and then turn the head unit off, I don't hear anything at all. If the antenna motor still works, should I be able to hear it from inside the car?
