Sensor Question
Sensor Question
Ok well my check engine light came on and It flashed 5 long 3 short and that is front right heated O2 sensor. So I bought an 02 sensor and replaced the one that connects closest to the raditor. My check engine light keeps comming on after i reset the ecu. Did i change the right one? I am confused..
An 0503 is the rear bank 02 sensor. You changed the wrong one. No worries, if they are both heated o2 sensors, just swap the two. Then go ahead and reset the ECU.
To access the rear bank 02 sensor easier, take off the front passenger wheel. That will give you great access to the sensor. You might have the jack-up the car if you need to get underneath. You can't miss the sensor, its on the side closes to the wheelwell on the rear portion of the downpipe.

Scratch the idea of swapping the two because the rear sensor is dead. Just go ahead and take out the rear sensor and replace it with the front sensor you had just taken out (assuming that one is still working).
DTC 0503 indicates a problem with the front Oxygen Sensor on the right cylinder bank. The right bank is also called the rear bank. 0303 indicates a problem with the front Oxygen Sensor on the left cylinder bank. The left cylinder bank is the front bank, the one you just changed.
Did you throw away the left bank (front) sensor you just changed? If so, you're going to have to buy another sensor and change out the right bank (rear) sensor. If you still have it, just take out the right bank sensor and put it in. This should clear the code assuming that sensor was functioning properly.
Heres a picture:

This is the best I can do with Windows Paint
Otherwise I can take pictures after work.

^There are two front O2 sensors, one on each bank
The reason why the right bank (rear bank) isn't called the 'rear' O2 sensor is because there is an actual Rear 02 sensor located near the Catalytic convertor.

i see what your saying!! Wow, i feel pretty dumb. I saved the front bank O2 sensor so i can just put that one in the rear bank. Where is the rear banks harness located? Thanks a lot for your help. I didnt understand chilton all to much..
Well.. for some reason this O2 sensor is impossiable to get off. i tried everything But that sucker is on there so tight. Are there are other solutions to getting it off? It makes me so mad cuz i had never had a problem with chaning a sensor before untill now.
What tool did you use to remove it? I found that a dedicated specialty oxygen-sensor removel socket worked great. Since the 02 sensor is crap anyways, don't be worried about damaging it.
Otherwise you can walk into any shop and have them loosen the sensor for you and they'll charge you their labor fees.

yeah i figured that but i am trying to stay away from any shop because its only one stupid sensor and they are no problem to change unless they are super glued on there! I used a 22mm wrench and i began to strip the b*tch!
