D2 coilover owners, noise?
hey guys, i was talking to a guy who owns a 5th gen and has a clicking noise, do the D2's for the 4th gen have these noises? or are you guys getting any weird noises?
I had clicking noises in the front and thought they would never go away. Jumbo here on the org told me to tighten the two allen bolts that prevents the piece (part that bolts to knuckle) from rotating. After I did that, the clicking completely went away. Now, the coilovers make no noises at all. The clicking can be from many different things so im not saying its just because of the allen bolts.

other than that how do you like the ride quality and so forth? i am in need of suspension upgrade and i would love to do coilovers but fear the noises.
I posted about this in the group buy thread, but I'll paste it here...

My clicking noise was coming from the pillow mounts. When steering... the coilover was pivoting on the lower spring perch, not on the pillow ball like it is supposed to. When the torque became to much and the spring couldn't pivot anymore, then the pillow ball would suddenly move , causing the noise. The pillow ***** were lubricated and now they move properly. This sounds much like the previously known problem with the pillow ***** that was supposed to have been corrected.
Here is my personal word of advice to those who haven't yet installed these. Nobody else has mentioned this, so I'm assuming everyone else noticed, but I'll say it anyway. On the lower mounting for the coilover that connects with the 2 large bolts to the hub... be sure to notice that the upper bolt hole on the coilover is slotted. You have to set the hub fully to one side or the other of the slot and then torque the **** out of that bolt or it WILL move. This is what was causing my funky camber issue, not what I previously posted about.

I'd say that by loosening those bolts you've made that lower mount the point of least resistance and that your whole strut is pivoting on the threads inside the mount instead of the pillow ball. This would explain why the noise stopped, because it would no longer be forcing the pillow ball to move. I can imagine that if it is pivoting in the lower mount, it will strip the threads in short order.
My recommendation to you would be to tighten them back up, unlock the steering wheel and have someone steer it back and forth from lock to lock. Watch the tops of the coilovers while you're doing this. If the top of the coilover (adjustment **** and indicator) is not turning in relation to the wheel but then moves suddenly and makes the popping, this the cause of the noise.
Just my guess though.
