KS + Voltmeter = Early Warning System?

I was reading my Haynes manual like a good maxima/cefiro owner should and it says that the voltage put out by the KS increases with Knock....

.. So my thinking is what about hooking up a volt meter gauge to the KS harness.. you could then watch the gauge and if it starts increasing it would give you pre warning of issues.. like if you get loss of power.. and no clue why just glance at the gauge and see what its up too

The manual didn't mention the actual voltages, I guess I have to see if its going to be high enough to measure with your average voltmeter gauge

voltage? I thought it was a change in resistance?

so your measuring while its on, and then if the ohms go up you got a problem?

Yeah thats the one, I'll check my manual later but pretty sure it said volts

yea about that .. :

"A good KS will measure ~550 k-Ohm resistance between the left pin of the KS and ground. You can check the resistance without removing the KS by following the harness to the connector. The connector has two pins, only one of them hooks up to the KS, so try them both. "

You sure you guys aren't thinking of Drop Resistor which is about 400-700ohms
OR the Hack you can do to fool the ECU is to put a 470k resistor instead of the KS but I still think it said it was voltage governed..

I think the OHMs reference above is just for testing purposes.. as in testing the internal component to make sure theres continuity not neccessarily its operation.

Once I find out either way, I guess the next thing would be to hook up a multimeter measure the KS output and determine if I can purchase a gauge that is capable of measuring the flutuations.

i think if the ohms went down you have a problem. voltage would have to raise, but not sure. if the resistance went up, like infinite, then you definately have a problem(bad ks).
