Moaning sound when starting in 1st Gear
#1
I have a 5-Speed, 1999 Maxima SE with 16,500 miles. When I engage the clutch in 1st gear from a standstill, I sometimes hear a moaning sound coming from the engine. The noise is MORE noticeable when there are more people in my car or when I'm on a hill (I think strain on the engine causes the moaning sound). The noise is ONLY heard when I engage the cluth in 1st gear and sometimes in reverse.
I think the tension of the drive belt may be the cause but the sound isn't a squealing sound that I read in other postings. Does anyone have advice to share?
Thanks.

My '99 GXE (25K miles, bought new, gently driven) has MCG and occasional chatter. I regard the clutch as a low point in an otherwise fine car. If this clutch ever wears out I will not replace it with Nissan factory parts.
