Your title of your message is very mis-leading.

Sounds like your car was stolen.

misfiring during accel

Hello, New to this forum and sorry for asking for info already. I have a 96 Maxima (VG??) which will misfire during moderate to heavy accel. Otherwise the engine runs fine and smooth. I see a reply on this thread talking about a possible bad coil. Is there anyway to try and isolate between the 6 or is this a trial and error thing. Info below on problem.

-1996 Maxima auto, 180k miles
-Codes revealed bad knock sensor. Replaced sensor, cleared codes,
codes remain clear at this time 0505. Missfiring still exists.
-Took a look at the TPS with an analog meter. Needle sweep seemed
smooth with no jumping during throttle range of movement. WOT and idle
readings were normal.
-Engine runs smooth at light throttle applications and cruise. Highway
mileage is 27-29. Considered normal.
-Plug are Bosh platnium's with about 40k on them. Inspected, all looked
good.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Honestly I bought this car for a work car 2 years ago for next to nothing. I have grown to really like this car and plan to find a low mileage SE 5spd once the better half gets out of nursing school. Thank you in advance for you help.

Bosch platinums are a no-no for any car IMO get a set of denso's or NGK's gap them to the correct spec: and see what happens

From searching the forum I see the Bosh thing being said often. What is the deal with the Bosh's I wonder. Plugs are definitely a cheaper thing to try first. I will give that a shot. Thanks for the quick reply.

Well, I almost don't believe it. I did not think that a spark plug change would ever fix this problem. I just couldn't be that lucky. Son-of-a-B if it didn't completely correct the missfire under load. Put in NGK G-powers and all is good. Take the plugs and add the fact that the knock sensor was bad for who knows how long and the car feels like I did some bolt on HP mods. Thank you for the info.

Yeah, I rememeber them. I am glad to say that I never gave into the marketing. However, I have been known to use some snake oil (lukas) a couple of times when a tranny was on it's last leg.
