take that and wind it back Maximeltman got the ecu to make his go fast. lol..
but seriously i plugged the 96 ecu in just now, and the engine turns over but it doesnt ignite. i tried a few times then smelled gasoline so i swapped back in the 99 ecu..normal again. question i have, and i know i'll regret it but is this right? or should it only work with the jwt upgrade?

jwt is moving the necessary pins in the ecu for it to work with our 99's...so if you didn't rewire the pins, then no it won't work yet!

I got a 99 5speed federal emmisions. It has the 115 mph cutout, will this mod still work with it and will it get rid of the cutoff at 115? if so, i already am searching for a 96 5speed fed ecu to get modified.

i wasn't aware cali-spec maximas existed before 99....

Read the stickies...It'll tell you how to get rid of the limiter...

This thread is confusing on the topic of the immobiliser/NATS. Someone said JWT rewired the 96 ECU to work with NATS (or is NATS part of the ECU?) and someone said the immobilizer won't work.

What's the story? Is this truly plug and play? IOW, if you get a 96 ECU back from JWT and install it in your 99 5-speed, will EVERYTHING work just as stock?

I saw that post about getting rid of it, I am asking if by replacing my 99 ecu with a 96, will that take out my speed limiter, i can do the snipping of wires easily and adding a switch.

It's not just because of the redline capability. Its what it gives them as far as tuning is concerned. Imagine being able to stretch beyond 65k if you had a 00vi, and boosted even! As long as I have owned any Maxima, I have never red-lined until the other day. I went up to 7k rpms at first and jammed to 2nd, at third I was gone! I would not do this often.

The remapping (air/fuel, timing? other?) for more power throughout the RPM range is what most attracts me. I don't really care about extended redline,, although 7K does sound more respectable than 6550.
