How hard to put in SS brake lines?
#2
This could be done by just about any mechanic or owner with a few basic tools. The only real issue is that you will have to bleed the entire brake system.
I would think that an independent garage would do it for less than $100. How much does the dealer want?

Well, the dealer I talked to, told me that it would take almost all day to do pads, rotors, lines and fluid, and it would be 50 bucks an hour. So I estimated it would cost around 300 or so. Thats way too much. I figured that my friends and I would do the rotors and pads, and maybe pay for the lines to be done. So your sayin its only about 100 or so to do the lines, and put motul fluid in.
Thanks....
Thanks....

save your Money
save your money and do it yourself, its really not hard. also, save the money you would spend on the Motul fluid and go to the local ford dealership and buy some ford heavy duty brake fluid... many auto-crossers and weekend road racers swear by it, and its like $3.99.

Ok thanks....I'll definitely get that wrench. One thing I was wondering was how did you drain all of the fluid?
It also depends, however, on if I can get someone to hook me up and do it for cheap...hehe

- flare nut wrench
- line wrench
- tubing wrench
These are available at Sears or any auto parts store.
You don't actually "drain all of the fluid" as you would with an engine oil change. You remove the factory brake lines, install the replacement lines, tighten all the fittings and then bleed the brakes. This procedure is covered in the Chilton repair manual (page 9-5) and the Haynes repair manual (page 9-16). It is a two-man operation unless ...
- you have a special tool such as a Mityvac hand-operated vacuum pump

- install special brake bleeder screws such as Speed Bleeder
