Coils
Coils
I know this has been brought up before, but I was searching the stickies and couldnt seem to locate anything on the coils. Probably not looking hard enough.
I was wondering how to go about checking the coil packs, and then how to replace them. Any information, or even a link to the sticky would be great.

If you read the stickys on how to repalce spark plugs, you read the sticky on how to repalce coils because it's in the same manner.
Not sure on how you check them with an ohm meter, but I jsut replace mine when I get a misfire, and I confirm that it is indeed the coil.

Don't waste your time. I had bad coils on my 99 max. I tested them 3 different ways using the methods described in Haynes, Chilton, and FSM. Passed some tests, failed others. Based on recommendations of others, I bought new coilpacks. Before I installed them though, I ran the same tests on them. Guess what? Same crappy and inconclusive results as the bad ones. I installed the coils, and BAM!, my hesitation issue was gone.

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....9&page=3&pp=40 You can try this, theres a how to on the last page of the thread
Well a while back the car threw the KS and MAF codes. Since then I replaced both of these. Each time making the problem a little better. But the car still lacks the power it used to have.
This sounds confusing but is true...when watching my RPMs they tend to tick like a second hand of a clock, instead of smoothly increasing. Also I noticed when over drive was NOT on and I were to turn it on in third gear, the car would increase in RPMs as if it were put in neutral, and then change gears.
This is really hard to explain. But its the best I can do.
