Getting the VQ even smoother
Today i was in my friends '01 i30 adn he commented to me on how smooth the engine is. I agreed that it seemed smoother than my '99 max. He told me that his engine ran smoother since he switched from 5-30 to 10-30. He basicaly said it was due to the 10-30 being thicker. I really liked how smooth his car was and was wondering if us with the original DE engine have found that swtiching from 5-30 to 10-30 made the engine feel smoother. I know that the 01'2 have like 30 more horses but it is ofset by extra weight, but his car seemed to feel faster and had a harder pull than mine. any ideas. His car has 80k and mine has 60k

Sorry to have to post a question here, but I still don't have enough credits to create my own thread.
Does anyone know if it is possible to put an 1156 bulb in the reverse light housing(lights for reverse drive)? I have a few extra 1156 bulbs hanging around, and would LOVE to throw them in there, and give them a MUCH crisper, sharper PURE white light.
I think the stock was a 194 bulb or something. I'll open the light fixture up tomorrow to see if they would even FIT, nevermind have problems with melting or whatever.
I'm especially asking because I am not in reverse for more than 30secs at a time - in terms of heat build up being a problem.
Thanks

That should not make a difference.... The oils are both 30 wt. when hot so they should both have the same viscosity characteristics... IMO its something else- Like maybe a newer and/or different engine?

The different oils would only makes a difference at startup when the engine is cold.

2000-2001 VQs are smoother. Ever seen a dyno curve for 00-01s? FLAT AS HELL. The dyno curve in 95-99s is like a roller coaster. Ups and downs and over before the best part.

Hell I have the 00vi, which makes the dynocurve smoother. And my car is still not as smooth as the 00+. I am sure it is a combination of newer engine/car and better grounds. Maybe a few more things too.
