Getting the VQ even smoother

Today i was in my friends '01 i30 adn he commented to me on how smooth the engine is. I agreed that it seemed smoother than my '99 max. He told me that his engine ran smoother since he switched from 5-30 to 10-30. He basicaly said it was due to the 10-30 being thicker. I really liked how smooth his car was and was wondering if us with the original DE engine have found that swtiching from 5-30 to 10-30 made the engine feel smoother. I know that the 01'2 have like 30 more horses but it is ofset by extra weight, but his car seemed to feel faster and had a harder pull than mine. any ideas. His car has 80k and mine has 60k

Sorry to have to post a question here, but I still don't have enough credits to create my own thread.

Does anyone know if it is possible to put an 1156 bulb in the reverse light housing(lights for reverse drive)? I have a few extra 1156 bulbs hanging around, and would LOVE to throw them in there, and give them a MUCH crisper, sharper PURE white light.

I think the stock was a 194 bulb or something. I'll open the light fixture up tomorrow to see if they would even FIT, nevermind have problems with melting or whatever.

I'm especially asking because I am not in reverse for more than 30secs at a time - in terms of heat build up being a problem.

Thanks

That should not make a difference.... The oils are both 30 wt. when hot so they should both have the same viscosity characteristics... IMO its something else- Like maybe a newer and/or different engine?

Could also be improvement going from 99.5 to 01. I know my 95SE is a lot less smooth and quiet compared to my dad's 98 GLE. A LOT.

Engine mounts are the same part# with automatic transmissioned GLE/SE and I30/I30t

GXE auto/5speed and SE-5speed uses standard mounts vs. electronically controlled engine mounts.

liquidx, I know you can't post your own threads yet, but it's not nice to hijack, just a heads up... as for your reverse, it uses a 1156 bulb already, your only option really to make it brighter is to use the specialty 50watt 1156 type bulbs, your reverses won't normally be on long enough to make melting the housing or harness a concern at all. Now... no more hijacking, be a good orger and all that bs.

The different oils would only makes a difference at startup when the engine is cold.

2000-2001 VQs are smoother. Ever seen a dyno curve for 00-01s? FLAT AS HELL. The dyno curve in 95-99s is like a roller coaster. Ups and downs and over before the best part.

Hell I have the 00vi, which makes the dynocurve smoother. And my car is still not as smooth as the 00+. I am sure it is a combination of newer engine/car and better grounds. Maybe a few more things too.

I use different oils depending on the season. I race auto-x and do the occassional NASA HPDE, I dump 20-50, 10-30, 10-40 synthetic blend oils all in at the same time. The only problem I saw this winter was I put 1 qt of 20-50 and the oil light was coming on at idle, I think that may have been too thick for winter. But where I drive I hit 90-100mph almost every other day, just keeping up with traffic.
