Air Intake Temp Sensor

What Do You Do With The Air Intake Temp Sensor When You Install An Intake, There Is Nowhere For Me To Reinstall The Sensor, Do You Just Let It Hang There?

nope.... if you bought the right intake it should come with a predrilled hole for it....check it out:

http://www.ricotumbao.com/car/cai2.jpg

edit: those 3 holes (bigone and two small) are precisley for it...since i have a 95 its different than 97-99 cuz they use a groummet hole type but in my case is hold by 2 screws.

The scary part is you need to get threadlocker (loctite) <-- expensive and sealant cuz we (95-96) have a little plate (where screws screw into) from inside the intake that engine can ingest it if come loose.

Word to the wise, put your stock midpipe back on and fabricate another hole somewhere in the intake for the sensor.

put it near the filter and forget about drilling holes.

tap into the square black plastic resonator box behind the Mass Air Flow sensor. If yo uhave a dremel. This takes literally 2-5 minutes. And the sensor is still monitoring the air going thru the intake.

LOL ... I must be the first person to get this to work without the predrilled hole. I had one hole, so obviously it wouldn't fit. No problem for me. I just grinded down the entire sensor down to only the physical part it needs to work and then stuck it down the hole. With the rubber that was meant for the hole, it was a perfect fit and no CEL!!! I'll post a pic if yah want.

When I had my intake on I just put the sensor hanging inside the filter.. I had no problems for over 2 years with that set-up..

^You're a dumbass. Transistered? The IAT sensor has nothing to do with the way the car runs, absolutely nothing. If your car feels stronger it's all in that little, empty head of yours.

transisterd...is that like a terd that rides the bus? i think its called a resistor and yes it can be used but dont expect any significant gains in h/p.

^Another one. Did you not read what I wrote? The IAT does not control any engine parameters or anything else whatsover. You can take it out completely and it will be the same, you'll get a CEL but it won't hinder peformance.

When I had my HAI, I put the IATS inside the cone intake. Of course the wire has to go thru somewhere. All I did was put the cone on the maf adapter with the wire squeezed in between. Don't tighten the clamp too much. I had that for almost 2 years w/o any problems.

True but it works. Besides noone can really see it. It's not like having a ghetto Pep Boys tail pipe and actually call yourself classy. But if you want to put more work into it for what its worth....go for it.

If its there it does something, it reades the air temp going into your block, obviously then it does something to the timing.

I ment to say resistor, sorry. and I got it for free, they only cost like 2 cents at some electronic stores. Why dont you try it before calling people names you dork, gimme my knife back too

O dave maybe for the 95/96 its different cause the sensors are different, and they are less restrictive with all the everythings on lower year maximas. but I still want my knife!

i had it just like in the pics above in my 96, now i just tucked it in between the filter and the left shock tower. that sensor is only used for certain diagnostics, not while the car is running normally. so do what i did, or zip-tie it to the mid-pipe, makes no difference.

Again, no. It's there to tell the engine the intake air temperature, nothing else. The ECU just reads it and leaves it the **** alone. I know what a resistor is, dork, I've been using them for the last 5 years of my life. Like I said 3 times in this thread, it does nothing, it's pointless. Maybe you want me to copy the FSM page where all this is said? Will that shut you up? If you want your knife go to Wisconsin, it's at the bottom of a lake somewhere probably.

you wont get a cel if you resitor out the iat sensor. i have had a resistor on mine for 2 yrs! plus, i did read what you wrote thats why i said "DONT expect any significant gains in h/p"

You won't get a CEL if the IAT is just dangling around the engine bay either.
You said significant gains. Meaning there will be some when in reality there won't be. Since that it the case why replace the thermistor with a resistor when it's COMPLETELY pointless?

Funny, Mine has been just sitting in the engine bay for almost a year on the current car and it was like that on the old car for over two years. You either broke it, shorted it, cut a wire, or it wasn't plugge into the connector.

the reason to replace a thermistor w/ a resistor is...................a resitor is $.25 and a iat is $40! mine broke so i went the cheap way. i know it doesnt effect the way a car runs and i just wanted my cel off. did you know the default setting is -40degrees when your iat is broken! so if lowering the iat sensor temp. was beneficial then unplugging it would yield the most gain however it yeilds no gain ever so i will try to phrase things diffrently next time!

what type of resistor would one use to replace this sensor with? I am getting a CEL from mine on my 97/99.. Is this the sensor right @ the airbox? or is it the one on the snorkle the feeds the box that comes from below and bends around to the front near the hood opening?
