Ok first, dont drive the car you may kill it, this could be two things, One is coolent, thats green, the second thing and being that its on the drivers side its probobly the transmission oil, check the transmission plugs(this will req u to look under the car).

Its probably grease from the CV joint (the boot is probably torn/cracked open).

1. you can drive around - but the longer you drive with that boot torn the more likely it is that you'll end up ruining the joint and then you might have to replace the whole axle instead of just re-booting the existing axle.
2. I answered the price question in your other thread.

was the green reallly grease from the CV boot? i find that hard to believe. it's usually just a black/brown and wont be so messy on the outside of the rim as on the inside.

if its green oil it still sounds more like cooland to me .... check your coolant resevoir before you make the trip, and if you notice your car starting to over heat, stop the car immediately.

I have a 96 and one of my outer CV boots developed a crack/leak last summer. If its that you wiill have green/black grease coating your inside of your wheel - hard to mistake for coolant which wouldn't hang around long - stick you finger in it and smell!!!

Maybe you guys with 96s and 97s should start keeping an eye on your boots. My inner boots are original but they are not subjected to the same stress/elements as the outter ones I suppose.

It definitely isn't tranny fluid as it is either clear (synthetic like Redline) or red (ATF). It sounds to me like CV grease. If the outter boot is torn, then that is your culprit since you said that the wheel had grease everywhere.

The outter boot can be removed w/o popping out the axle. Just disconnect the lower spindle bushing and tie rod. Pull the entire spindle assembly off of the splined end of the axle and move it to the side. Now you have access to the boot so you can replace it.

Both the outter boots on mine have been replaced. The inners usually don't need replacement.

I went to see Jeff @ maximum tuning in Glen Cove NY. He hooked me up lovely. I had brought my own brand new knock sensor and the end links/bushings. He replaced my CV joints, replaced my knock sensor, replaced my end links/bushings, replaced my Belts (power steering, AC, Alternator) ALL for just 450!!!!! He's the mAn!!!!

My car is running like a charm!!!

Glad you are back on the road. Sometimes it is worth paying someone rather than doing things yourself. Yes you can save money doing things yourself, but sometimes its better to leave it to the experts!

Do you know what is the diffrent between Green Fluid? and Green Grease?

Tranny Fluid should not be Greenish, They are usally LIght Red or pink.

I think your Nuts and bolts are loose, or you might be color blind.

I agree that there are many benefits to doing things yourself. On the same token, those of us who like to get are hands dirty and fix things often do so at the expense of other things. I only have a limited amount of time left over after working my full-time job. With a family, kids, and a house, I can't spend as much time on my car as I would like and I can't afford the downtime (of the car) in case some repair job doesn't go as planned or takes longer than expected. All these types of factors need to be considered before making any assumptions about people who either choose to do everything themselves, or about those who choose to pay to have the work done. Cheers.

$450 ... u got ! I know a half a dozen places that will do it for half that price at the most. The first time I paid for mine to be replaced, when I didn't know any better, I paid $150 for both sides.
