i'd love to have an egg with a VE in it or just put a VE in my SE-R. then my beater would be faster than the maxima.

I will drive this car into the ground and rebuild it before I let it go. I plan on buying a much nicer car in a few years but I will keep the Max as my toy/project.

I guess you are what they call a mature student, given that your profile says you are 59.

yeah i think i remember tilley telling me you had one.... i love that car, and i know its fast for what it is, but after driving my maxima, the se-r feels like a dog..... i can get a turbo kit for it for 400.... but the problem is i bought it to be more economical than the max for my 25 mile commute to school (one way).... but bijan, anything with an sr20 is fun to drive, although i am more fond of the sentras than the nx2000's.... its all good though!

edit: and tilley wants to make some b13 (any b13, not necessarily my sentra) vq-powered......

I'll keep my Maxima forever. I just payed off my Maxima and bought a Titan. I love the feeling of being high in the truck one minute and then practically sitting on the ground in the Maxima the next.

Maxima = Daily work commute/beater
Titan = Fun vehicle/gas guzzler

My car get me from point a to b with a decent mix of comfort/speed. However once finances allow, it will be gone.

I spent a ton of money on cars, I've probably wasted 13,000 or more on cars. In reality I should've listened to my father and used it for a condo as a downpayment, and lease it out. Maybe it's something to think about for everyone else who's investing in a car which depreciates so fast. I'm preaching like an old man to you hahaha..**** I'm getting old...

Woulda, shoulda, coulda! The easy money has been made in the housing market and your strategy might have worked had you used it a few years ago, but is very risky at this stage of the housing/economic cycle.

The money you have spent on your Maxima is now a sunk cost and the only way you will recoup what you spent is to continue to maintain your car in good condition and keep it for a number of years.

I will keep breathing life into my Maxima until I can no longer get parts for it. This one is a "keeper."

Exactly why I'll never sell it. Outside of the .Org, no one cares about my y-pipe, or suspension, or intake. VI will be going on this weekend, and it wont add any value to my car. Dudes with the 3.5, no one will care there is a 3.5 in the car. Once you start getting into modding, you will never gain any money if you decide to sell it. Perhaps you could part the stuff off on the org, but thats the org.

A while back, I saw a video of a Max doing drifts rally-style. I forgot who's Maxima it was but I saw it in the org somewhere. Also, as an example, if a race-experienced person in a Maxima, races another person with equivalent racing skills in a "sports car", both V6, 5 speed, with race-tuned suspension and other similar mods, in a closed-circuit track, who do you think will win?
I'm happy to report I recently beat a Mini in auto-x. He had a tuned suspension, I was totally stock sans a K&N filter. It was all driver, he couldn't drive as good as I could, period. You can race anything, look at those Mazda 6's winning races on Speed Channel (FWD no less). A stock 4th gen could keep up with a new (but stock) Mazda 6.
I think Maxima's are good platforms to learn on anyway, it trail brakes fairly well, and it doesn't torque steer all over the place either. I have trail braked out of turn 1 at Pocono into the infield at 90, it was fairly easy to handle. Plus, one of the things I like best, is Maxima's are somewhat sneaky, a 4th gen can either beat or keep up with a lot of things new or old on the road right now.

haha, yup. 4th gens are sneaky. I raced this dude in a mustang, and beat him. He became so upset that he is selling his car to buy an 05 GT. Said "I CANT BELIEVE I LOST TO A MAXIMA!" He was looking in my trunk for nitrous, and all under my hood. Couldnt believe I had just I/Y/E. The looks on peoples faces...priceless

03 v6 with headers, intake, 70 MM TB, and dual Borla exhaust. It's nothing special, but he must have thought it was. I beat him by 2 cars on a road that measures exactly 1/4 mile. And that was with my heavy a$$ 17s on

HAHA......those things are slow. These kids who put exhausts in them thinking they're the shet are on denial. He desereved to have had his *** handed to him by a Maxima.

I keep up with those guys and that's with just a stock intake with K&N and Flowmaster but I'm a 5 speeder.

If i was 5 spd, i would have murdered him. He is auto as well, but his car still chirps second gear. I first thought it was a GT with the exhaust out the back, but then he popped the hood, and i chuckled to myself. Shoulda put some money down.

With my new 5th gen clutch, I chirp second as well. Not sure if I can do 3rd. This is the thing that I really noticed on this clutch, 2nd is very strong.
