Squashed Progress springs
I put on new rotors yesterday and noticed that my Progress springs in the rear are sitting on the top 5 turns, so basically are doing nothing. (The rear beam was sitting on jacks.)
Is this normal?

Here's what they looked like before the install (two on left are the front springs):

When I jack the body of the car(=> spring fully extended) the top set of coils look pretty close(<1cm) so I guess if you jack the beam that would be how it should look. I had put spots of silcone between the upper coils to prevent them from touching and cutting away the paint. The silcone is still there today and there is no evidence(missing paint) of the upper coils touching.

that's cuz when you raise the front, you are taking all of the stress off of the shocks and springs whereas when you raise the rear on the beam, the weight of the car is still being transfered to the ground through the beam, which causes the springs to depress. it's probably normal. raise it somewhere where it doesn't affect the beam, and then look.

linear springs have one working spring rate, ie: 300 in/lb coilovers.
