unidentified squealing/grinding when engine cold

I have a 96 maxima with automatic tranny. I live in Wisconsin which is cold about 5 months or so out of the year. Before my recent engine light came on, I had a problem with the car making a loud squealing/grinding noise when I cranked it over when the air temp is about 35-40 degrees and colder when the car has been sitting. We took out and replaced the starter and the dealer replaced one of the belts. The noise still occurs but only when it is cooler out. The flywheel was looked at but not inspected and it seemed to have some wear (which will be checked out more closely in the real near future). I also seemed to have a problem (before the engine light came on) also, with the car not starting properly where i had to have someone hold down the throttle body under the hood and i had to just keep cranking it to start it. This went undiagnosed at the dealership as it only happens sometimes. This is frustrating becasue I don't know what to replace or fix on the car. Car has 55,000 and wasn't part of the injector campaign. What should I do thanks to anybody for help.
