Help me decide

Hey Guys,

I have a 99 Maxima SE 5-Speed, and have been on the board since I got it over a year ago, and you have all been extremely helpful, and now I finally have a real issue worth getting advice on.

About 3 months ago I let a friend use my car, and somehow she managed to mess up my tranny, and ever since it grinds bad ever time I shift into second gear. I have been saving cash to do a re-build (hopefully syncros only) since then, and have been avoiding second gear to avoid further damage. Well two nights ago my clutch started slipping on me. So I decided to take it to a local tranny place, and was informed that the longer I wait the more damage I will cause to my tranny, and that I only have a few weeks before my clutch is going to go. Needless to say I am going to replace both the tranny and the clutch.

I am thinking of purchasing a stage 1 clutch off the org group deal, and have the tranny guy put it in when I get the tranny re-built. The questions I have for you guys are...

1. Is there any other performance mods I should think about while or before I do this?

2. Is $1000 - $1300 a good price for a re-build and clutch install?

3. What are my gearing options, and appx extra costs?

4. Any other advice anyone can offer?

5. Does anyone have gears for sale cheaper than Nissan, incase I need one?

Thanks in advance...
Dave...

Well the first mistake you made is letting a woman drive your car when you weren't in it or else sober enough to drive.

It's rather early to require a rebuilt transmission for a 99, but I guess it happens.

Have you considered a lighter flywheel, say a Fidanza, while you are it?

Yes i did considder the flywheel, and have heard a few people say it was not worth the money, especially sence i am dishing out 12-1500 for tranny clutch...

I have 87,000 miles on her.....

I was drunk and stupid , wont happen again though!!!!

atleast you did let her drive it otherwise you would have crashed or something and destroyed the whole car or worse kill your self. yes 1200 is a decent price to rebuild a tranny thing is japanese trannys are very difficult trannys to rebuild in comparison to an american tranny not alot of places know how to do it or do it properly make sure this place is reputable becuse you dont want to have to get it all done all over again.
