So I have this idea .. .
I have been planning on doing a coolant "flush". I am going to follow the Motorvate write up. The one that OMITS the engine block drain plugs and just uses the radiator. As I understand it, this leaves you with MOST of the fluid changed.
I was thinking of draining the radiator, flushing it, filling with pure water, and running the car for a few days. Then when I would drain the fluid and flush the radiator I would truly be getting most of the old stuff out. (Maybe not in one go-round, but I think you see where I'm going with this)
With the summer heat here I don't think I have to worry about anything freezing. If the coolant system is primarily filled with water should I worry about a lowered boiling point? Any other dangers??
I'm not really bent on doing it this way, just had a thought.
Tell me what you think

i would say do not just run water for a few days. when i flushed my car, i put the hose with a coolant flush adapter, you can buy it at a local parts store. its usually like $5 bucks. turn on the hose n flush it that way first. most of the stuff will come out and also leave the drain plug unplugged at this time. make sure that its clear. obviously put a bucket when you first let the coolant out, and do fill it up with water n then drain it again one more time into the bucket before you let it run into the streets. i drove around maybe for like 10 minutes with pure water, making sure my needle wasn't too high or too low, at that point. drained it again. make sure that the resevoir is emptied n cleaned also. also fil that with water. n then drain n fill it a couple of times. run the engine like 10 minutes each time you do this. this will also allow you to take a break. n also make sure the last time you fill up is with distilled water. if you want if since it gets really hot in GA, use something called water wetter. its this red stuff that you add to the water n coolant. makes the car i believe almost 10 degrees cooler. really good, but bad for us more north guys during the winter since the heat wouldn't be as hot. good luck!

Water alone has no lubrication properties for your water pump. It's not a good idea to run on only water for any length of time. Unless your system is full of crud, a simple drain and refill should be more then enough to keep the cooling system in good shape.

Keep the feedback coming, I will probly get this done this weekend.

radiator shops blow air and compressed water through or something
my old man showed me this machine they use in their shop to do it
professionaly done it cleans the system right out.
running pure water might dry out your system because isnt coolant a lubricant as well?
also watch out for rmurdochs sh^tlist, u dont want to miss out on all his good info :P

I wouldn't disrespect rmurdoch. With the amount of posts he has daily in the 4th gen forum I would rather recieve advice (and awards) rather than well . . .
I heard he has been banned from dealerships
